Excerpt: Halo did it for the Xbox, Grand Theft Auto for the PlayStation 2. Zelda could very well do it for the Wii, Resistance: Fall of Man for the PlayStation 3. I'm of course talking about system sellers, games so good consumers will buy a new console just to play them.
Conclusion: The only downer to the game is the life span when I first completed the game I was very disapointed with the single player mode which at the time I did not have xbox live so I felt that the single player mode is very poor. . It only takes about 8 hours to complete.
Excerpt: Gears of War. After months of carefully planned hype by Microsoft, it’s finally here. We can finally find out whether all the trailers and screenshots that made us drool have honored the game or set false expectations. Game of the year or the largest pile of hot air since the start of humanity?
Excerpt: Gears of War is synonymous with the Xbox 360, analogous to the original Xbox's Halo and every bit as iconic within the gaming community. There isn't enough that can be written about how this game has shaped the image of the system of its original release, how it set the tone for everything that came...
Conclusion: Mount & Blade is a marvelously innovative title. Ditching the fantastic for a more historical setting, incorporating a FPS-styled combat system, and allowing the formation of large war parties, Mount & Blade thoroughly refreshes a genre long trapped by convention.
Pros: Refreshing non-fantastical setting; innovative physics-based combat system; the ability to manage large war parties; wonderful musical score.
Cons: No multiplayer; some quests can be repetitious; hero characters are invulnerable; needs a central narrative.
Conclusion: Overall I was quite impressed with Gears of War. It took a year, but now Xbox 360 owners finally have that "must have" title for their system. And what a great title it is. There are some small problems with the game though.
Conclusion: Gears of War is clearly one of the best-looking
games in 2006 and it could even rival Halo 3 for
the graphical achievements and awesome gameplay.
It’s only a matter of time before it starts
winning awards such as Game of the Year under
Summary: You would think that after all of the hype and coverage Gears of War has gotten over the last year or so, that there would be no way it could live up to expectations. But it does. It meets those expectations and even exceeds them. This is one of the best looking and best playing games of 2006.
Conclusion: It's a rarity that a game gets as much hype as this game got, and even more rare that it lived up to that hype. Even 6 months after its release it's still going strong. This day in age, that's a lifetime for an online shooter. In the tradition of Goldeneye and Halo, this is a game for the ages.
