Excerpt: Gears of War was announced at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (also called E3) in 2004. It received lots of attention due to its amazing graphics. Many said that it had the best graphics they have ever seen. The company making Gears is Epic Games. They are mostly known for the fast paced online PC shooter series, Unreal. They had already created the Unreal Engine 3, which is widely considered the most powerful graphics engine out right now.
Summary: For those who were concerned that
Halo may finally get dethroned as the best console shooter of all time,
fear not…the king is well and truly safe. While fun, and innovative in
some really cool ways, in the end Gears of War is one of those games that
nobody will be talking about three months from now.
Pros: Unbelievably pretty and featuring some really cool context-sensitive functions.
Cons: So short it should be criminal, so badly written that it's laughable, and so underdeveloped that it's incomprehensible.

If this is in fact true, we’ve enjoyed our time there, especially during our first visit in 2006. Rainbow Six Vegas 2 is a competent shooter as well—just like its high-stakes predecessor—but we have a sneaking suspicion that Ubi sunk more development dollars into the next next installment of...
Excerpt: Gears of War is synonymous with the Xbox 360, analogous to the original Xbox's Halo and every bit as iconic within the gaming community. There isn't enough that can be written about how this game has shaped the image of the system of its original release, how it set the tone for everything that came after it and raised the bar for what we expected out of action games for this generation, both in terms of mechanics and in terms of presentation.
