Fracture

Break it Down
5 December 2008
  • Excerpt: Summary: [6 out of 10] Fracture is a third person shooter set in 2161 on Earth.  You play as a soldier for the Atlantican army.  The main feature that sets Fracture apart from other third person shooters is that you have weapons that let you deform the terrain.  This terrain deformation lets you  raise or lower the terrain to suit your needs.

  • Conclusion: THE VERDICT: Fracture has staked its reputation on one main mechanic of making the earth move and for that, it doesn't deliver. It may cause the odd tremor amongst the XBL fraternity, but the single player is a advert for indifference and token gestures. Solid, average, generic, clichéd and just too dull to trouble the bigger and more established shooters.

Fracture

Gamer vision
21 October 2008
  • Excerpt: Name: Fracture Genre: Third person shooter Platform: Xbox 360, PS3 (Reviewed on 360) Inevitably this is the time of year when the major game developers release their biggest titles, all in the hope of capturing a share of the lucrative holiday market. From RPG, to survival horror, to rhythm games, every gaming genre breaks out their big guns. This year no genre seems more heavily represented than the shooter.

  • Conclusion: I really thought this was going to be an awesome game. I mean, I was really smiling when I put this into the tray. That smile eventually turned into a neutral look as I plodded through the predictable levels. In the end, I just wanted the act to be over so I could play something else. Not good for a game that had so much potential. Like I said before, I really do applaud LucasArts for trying something new, but is it really new if you just add one new element to a game?

  • Conclusion: The terrain deformation, a few cool weapons and the multiplayer salvage this from being complete junk. All in all, there must be at least 100 better ways to spend 60 bucks. Personally, I can think of a few naughty things right away, but to each his own.
  • Pros: Enjoyable multiplayer, a few cool weapons to toy around with;
  • Cons: Run-of-the-mill gameplay, it's a carbon copy of most top shooters, crappy story and unoriginal design and art direction.

Fracture

  • Conclusion: The physics that enable you to make the earth move certainly work and will provide laughs in abundance for the first hour or so. However, when everything else about Fracture is a retread of shooters past, it’s hard to feel anything else but disappointment that the brilliant gimmick has been squandered on a brief, just above average shooter.

Fracture review

Gameplanet
8 December 2008
  • Excerpt: A novel concept, but Fracture ultimately fails to deliver. Hopefully the terraforming concepts can be applied to another title, in the meantime this looks like being just a rental.
  • Pros: Terraforming is a great idea. The grenades are innovative. Multiplayer may be a saving grace.
  • Cons: It's repetitive, linear and too easy. Cutscenes are shocking. A boring solo campaign.

  • Conclusion: Fracture is a lukewarm effort and the much touted terrain deformation fails to be ground-breaking.
