Final Fantasy XIII

Family Friendly Gaming
2 February 2013
  • Excerpt: I started to play Final Fantasy XIII in preparation of the launch of Final Fantasy XIII-2. Put it down to review the sequel, and am now finally ready to review Final Fantasy XIII. This Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 video game is a work of art and modern technology. This game rivals many of the motion pictures put out by Hollywood. And has some of the same trappings. We get to know deep and complex characters. They each have their own motives, interests, and goals.

Final Fantasy XIII-2 (Xbox 360 & PS3) Review

411mania.com
16 February 2012
  • Summary: The final taste in your mouth may not be good if you dislike the way XIII-2 ends. However, it does not take away the fact that Square-Enix listened to their fans and gave them the game FF XIII should have been. The sprawling land masses and many side quests that populate the time traveling story add a lot to the experience.

Gorgeous fantasy RPG with combat & some suggestive scenes.

Common Sense Media
26 July 2010
  • Summary: Parents need to know that Final Fantasy XIII is Teen-rated, mostly because the gameplay is combat-heavy. Your party of characters will square off against enemies and engage in a turn-based fights, but with the ability to make some decisions during the battle. There is no blood or gore and most of the enemies are nasty creatures. You are also defending your homeworld and way of life instead of aggressively attacking enemies for no reason.

  • Excerpt: This sequel to the 1988 Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) original is testament to Capcom’s and developer Grin’s well-trained eye for delivering superb fan service. While it is a slick, highly-accomplished title in its own right, its painfully steep learning curve may put some players off. Original hero Nathan ‘RAD’ Spencer returns after spending several years imprisoned by the military group he served under during the first game.

Review: Final Fantasy XIII (PS3, Xbox 360)

Gamer 2.0
25 March 2010
  • Conclusion: Final Fantasy XIII is a good game, but it’s definitely nowhere near great, and that’s extremely disappointing given all the press and hype that the developers, publishers, and other media seemed to generate for this title.  The game takes roughly 40-50 hours to beat the first time through, and there is almost no replay value unless you absolutely must have a go and obtain the trophies or accomplishments, which would handily increase the hours tenfold.

Final Fantasy XIII

ActionTrip
24 March 2010
  • Conclusion: That said, what was supposed to be the game's strongest point turned out to be its greatest weakness. If you're looking for complex multi-layered characters and a thrilling storyline, I seriously doubt Final Fantasy XIII will give you the ride of your life. Each time you find yourself enjoying the gameplay, you'll immediately get distracted by cinematics and unimportant dialogue taking place between the characters.
  • Pros: The art direction is great, as are the visuals, music and sound effects, the gameplay is actually quite good and engaging when it gets going, a satisfying amount of different skills and combat abilities for each character;
  • Cons: Excruciatingly slow beginning and tutorial, equally slow and poorly told story with infantile and clichd characters, you'll probably end up skipping most of the cut-scenes (and my God there are a lot of them).
