FIFA Soccer 08

Game Boyz
4 April 2008
  • Excerpt: While my first love of any videogame sport is hockey, soccer titles are a close second. I fondly remember the brilliant 3DO version of FIFA, where fellow reviewer Kirby Y and I went gaga over the cool bouncing ball intro. Fast-forward roughly a decade or so and EA is still publishing the FIFA series. The last few versions have made me somewhat concerned as the inconsistent control issues and online play have been issues for me.

  • Conclusion: Overall...it is a tough one...this is not a game that people just forgot about causing high TAs...it is a tough and grinding game to complete, especially the online segment. So far, all the onlines are still available.minus one The Real World achievement in FIFA 08 worth 27 points As the Lead Profile, Play an Online Interactive Leagues game to completion so you will not be able to get 100% on this game any longer either.

The Gamers Temple
23 February 2008
  • Excerpt: It used to be that portable sports games were mere shadows of their colossal console cousins. You usually wouldn't get more than a basic game mode, and if you were lucky you'd also get a season mode that would let you play your way through a team's schedule but that's about it. FIFA 08 however will make those days a distant memory.

  • Conclusion: Overall FIFA 08 is looking to be a major success for EA. Never before have the team captured the reality of football and condensed it into a comprehensive footballing title. Granted it’s hard and yes you’ll end up using the cheap tactics of past but with over 15,000 licensed players, 30 leagues and the teams that litter them, FIFA 08 is a joy to play. Only time will tell if the game can begin to win over its bitter rivals from Pro Evolution 2008.

Game Over Online
12 February 2008
  • Excerpt: Sports games have long been dominated by the monster that is EA. At the turn of the century, EA sports games were a given to most gamers as the sports game of choice. However, we've since seen a shift in the paradigm away from total domination to a much more competitive field of play (pun intended).

Game Over Online
12 February 2008
  • Excerpt: When you boot this baby up for the first time, you'll find yourself in control of Ronaldinho on a futuristic pitch. You can dribble around, get used to the controls, or take shots on a goalie. It's a nice touch. Once you get to the menu, you'll see that the usual options of a FIFA game are available to you. You'll have your friendly match, season, manager mode, practice, etc. These are self-explanatory, and if you've played FIFA before, these are not much different.

FIFA Soccer 08 Review

IGN Entertainment
9 February 2008
  • Conclusion: It seemed fitting for Electronic Arts to clean up the shooting dynamic while they were tweaking the player control. FIFA Soccer 08 features a ball striking system more advanced than pretty much any other sport out there, taking into account player balance and speed, the height and bounce of the ball and the actual ranking of the character taking the kick.
