Fez Review

PlayDevil
16 July 2012
  • Summary: " Fez " is a weird one. It has a brilliant start, but unless you obsess over completion and getting 100% in a game, I found that some of the charm wore off, and the game had little lasting appeal beyond the first couple of hours.

Fez Review (Xbox 360)

Softpedia
25 May 2012
  • Conclusion: Fez is a love letter to puzzle platformers from the “golden age” of video games, featuring both the good and bad sides of those older titles. It’s quite challenging, it doesn’t try to hold your hand, and you’ll certainly have to put your brain to good use, but you’re rewarded with a visually...
  • Pros: +Sharp platforming, +Vibrant visuals, +Clever level design
  • Cons: -Glitches are frequent, -Can be a bit too challenging at times

24 May 2012
  • Conclusion: Okay so it’s got its buggy hiccups but personally I love the fact that I still haven’t cracked everything Fez has to offer. I’m always going to shy away from the longevity sapping solutions of the internet, because now I have a complex little corker nestled in my XBLA collection that offers a decent...

XBLA Review - 'Fez'

WorthPlaying
19 May 2012
  • Summary: Fez is a platforming game that uses 2-D/3-D perspective shifts and optical illusions to drive gameplay. Gomez is a 2-D man on a voyage of discovery into the mysterious third dimension.

Fez

DarkStation
30 April 2012
  • Conclusion: Fez is an interesting animal, as Gomez’s quest to seek out the Cubes needed to repair the Hexahedron becomes ancillary once you start collecting Anti-Cubes. Normally, satisfaction from a game like this would involve figuring out how to access hard to reach Cubits by manipulating objects and...

Fez Review

GamerNode
30 April 2012
  • Summary: Is Fez a puzzle game? Is it a platform game? Is it a nostalgia trip? Does the absence of reactive challenge mean it’s even a game at all? I guess that all depends on your perspective.
  • Pros: Vibrant retro aesthetic, Clever uses of central mechanic, Overarching puzzle is a doozy
  • Cons: Some will not appreciate the lack of challenge, Confusing map, Handful of visual bugs

Game Review - Fez

Game.ie
24 April 2012
  • Summary: For the longest time, indie title Fez was better known for it’s ponderously protracted development cycle than anything else. The game was first announced by creator Phil Fish a very long time ago in July 2007.

Expert Review

GameSpot
13 April 2012
  • Summary: First appearances can be mighty deceiving. Fez starts as a simple platformer in a brightly colored world. Within minutes, you don a magical hat that lets you rotate the world on its axis, revealing hidden doors and linking previously unconnected paths.
  • Pros: Inviting, charming visual design, Varied and catchy soundtrack, Challenging puzzles that require serious dedication to solve, Novel screen-rotation mechanic
  • Cons: Convoluted map, Unclear when you have enough knowledge to solve puzzles, Performance issues

Fez Review

G4
12 April 2012
  • Summary: Fez is a flawed work of genius, in a way. The base mechanics are lacking, glitches abound and yet the world -- so full of secrets and hidden puzzles -- is an utter joy to explore.
  • Pros: Innumerable, complex secrets ensure the game will appeal to the loftiest of crowds, Art style and chiptune soundtrack create one of the finest "retro" aesthetics out there
  • Cons: Technical glitches and shortcomings give the game an unpolished, broken feel, The 2-D/3-D mechanic doesn't remain interesting throughout, Gomez is not particularly agile, and control can become an issue
