Far Cry 2 was released as the official sequel to Far Cry even as the developers of the original game did not take part in its development. Far Cry 2 also features a different setting, a new style of gameplay, and a new set of characters. Apart from this, the original game features sci-fi characters that cannot be found in Far Cry 2.
The game can be played in both single player and multiplayer modes. It is set in a war-torn African state where two factions compete with each other for control over the state. These two factions include the United Front for Liberation & Labour and the Alliance for Popular Resistance. The players’ task in this mission-persistent game is to use all means necessary to find and assassinate an arms-dealer who has been known for dealing weapons to both factions.
When in multiplayer mode via LAN or internet, yup to 16 players can join a game of Far Cry 2. There are four multiplayer game modes available. These include Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, Capture the Diamond, and Uprising.
Far Cry 2 features the Dunia Game Engine which Ubisoft Montreal developed specifically for it. Because of this game engine, the game offers a variety of features including non-scripted enemy AI, real-time night-and-day cycle, dynamic fire propagation and storm effects, and a dynamic music system. It also features real-time storytelling, and systemic auto-healing. In addition, its players can choose from a wide variety of available weapons.
See lessSo long as you only play the game in small bursts, Far Cry 2 is an interesting experience. Sneaking around, killing enemies with a variety of weapons and setting up explosive traps on the fly are a whole lot of fun. But the respawning enemies are a serious issue since they’re so damnable difficult to kill or even evade. If Ubisoft released a patch that decreased the enemy respawn rate to a few times per in-game day then playability would increase nearly ten-fold.... Read more
The game though is, at best, mediocre and occasionally plays like something that just wasn’t finished before it shipped. It does do a lot of stuff right so if you’re interested in giving the game a shot, you’ll do best to rent the game. If you still want to buy it, my recommendation is to either get it at a discount (like Newegg since it is one of the few retail spots offer\ing the game for less than $50). If you can find it used at a GameStop, Disc Replay or Half... Read more
Ubisoft roll out a superb game which straddles the admittedly limited genre of Africa-based shooters like a true colossus. Read more
Overall Far Cry 2 is now one of the biggest shooters on the Xbox 360, literally. You can easily spend an obsene amount of time in this game’s world. You have tons and tons of different missions and activities to do offline, and if you were to get tired of that, hop online and try out some different multiplayer maps that will continuously flow in from the game’s community. With drop dead gorgeous visuals, a very high level of realism and detail, and a seemingly... Read more
T he first game in the Far Cry series was revolutionary in a countless number of ways and for many reasons, which would explain why so many people are anticipating this 2nd proper entry into the series. Far Cry 2 is set in a completely new environment, a desert in Africa instead of a tropical island. The differences between the two don’t end here though, the gameplay itself is partially different and the game relates to a completely different main character and overall... Read more
Fun: Ok first off let me say this game is not like the ones for the original xbox. They took out the fun of this game meaning no mutants, no jumping 15ft, no running 50mph none of that. Your just a normal man with some guns. This game is one of the longest games i've ever played but also the most REPETATIVE game i've ever played. In FarCry 2 theres 2 maps North and South I beat the North map and went on to the South when i just quit. All the missions are the same go kill... Read more
A good game is by all means a good game, just to be clear, but a good game is never any better if its a sequel without any ties to the related pre-quels. It's like playing Halo, except Master chief isnt there, the game seems to be a little suckier, and the story feels like its been told already before you've started the game. Oh wait...(Halo ODST?) Don't get me wrong, Far cry 2 had some good ideas, some good effects and some good gameplay; but the promises made were... Read more
The bottom line is Far Cry 2 is a well deserved great first person shooter, that offers great graphics, and a very interesting storyline. It's worth spending the time it takes to beat it but may be a trade-in for some players after that. Far Cry 2 is also available for the PlayStation 3 and the PC. My final rating of Far Cry 2 is 8.5 out of 10 (10 being the highest). Read more
Let's start with the obvious. Graphics of the game are really breathtaking. I liked the graphics of "Predator" for the time it was releashed but now we are at an entire new level. Shades and lighting effects are simply great. The vegitation movement while you walk around, while grenades explode and while scores of enemies are chasing you is realistic. Landscapes amaze you with their variety and you get to have a feeling that you actually travel around the world in a few... Read more
We go on safari with one of the most inventive shooters of the year We were lucky enough to get a hands–on with Ubisoft‘s sequel to the acclaimed first person shooter at an exclusive press event all the way back in May. Even then we knew that come October, a treat was in store. A sun drenched African Savannah, a totally free–roaming sandbox to explore, hunt and kill in a multitude of different ways – just go whichever way your compass takes you. Wild animals roam...
