Reviews and Problems with El Shaddai - Ascension of the Metatron

Interesting aesthetics, but an utter chore to play

Summary: El Shaddai is an oddball game. It's based on the book of Enoch, which is a record of Enoch's life after he was taken up to heaven, and how God sent him to judge the fallen angels who descended to earth, took human wives, and created half-angel Nephilim. When it comes to things like the art and the music, the game is awesome, with wild acid-trip visuals, a seriously great soundtrack, and some decent faithfulness to the source material.
Summary: Granted, I only put in about an hour on this game before quitting. However, from other reviews online it was apparent to me that the gameplay was not going to change. It was interesting having a paper/rock/scissors battle format but it just appeared to be button mashing and it got old quickly. So if your looking to buy this, keep in mind the biggest experience will be the storyline and graphics.
Summary: This game was a lot of fun in terms of playing something different. Since the gaming market is crowded with shooters, this was a welcome change. The art and style in this game is beautiful. It reminded me of the game Okami. It doesn't have its down falls, even though it tells a interesting story. The combat gets repeatative and hard at times, since you have to kill enemies with certain weapons. If you want a good story and great art/style, then pick this up.
Summary: I'm a fan of many different kinds of games, and usually go out of the way to find lesser known but acclaimed titles (I loved Enslaved for the 360). I saw enough positive reviews about this game to pick it up. I wasn't initially disappointed, but the story for this game is so abstract and confusing that I was lost interest- and fast. The battles were fun, but there were many points in the game that were scripted (Wait, I was supposed to lose?
Summary: The gameplay here is tediously boring and repetitive. I mean, how many different holes and how many types of gaps are you going to need to jump across before you find it boring. And to make matters worse, if you do miss the jump, you have to start back from the start of that area. Usually, this is not too far back from where you were, but I recall fairly early in the game that after failing the jump a few times, I was taken back to a point previous to a boss battle!
Summary: Let me say that the graphics are really interesting and appealing. but they will lose their appeal quickly, the gameplay just gets more and more repetitive with no sign of any depth in the future. There are 3 weapons, thats it. You do not level up either, so you do not really learn new skills or new ways to use those weapons. The gameplay depth is what hurts this game the most. The story is very out there...
Summary: This game is too pretentious. Honestly, I went into El Shaddai wanting so much, and maybe that's the main problem. But when reviews say that this is the epitome of an amazing Japanese game, I would assume anybody should be disappointed after being promised that and then presented this game. It's not that the game is bad- it just isn't good. At it's core, El Shaddai is a button masher through and through.

Excerpt: El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron (Xbox 360) A few months ago I was extremely lucky when a TEFL student of mine was given an Xbox 360 and due to the fact that he doesn't like games he then passed this gift on to me, for free! Included with the Xbox were a number of games which personally I wouldn't even have thought about purchasing if I had seen them in the shops.
Pros: Different from my usual games . Visually fantastic .
Summary: Also ich bin ja großer Fan von extravaganz in Spielen.
