Summary: MechAssault 2 has been improved in pretty much every way over the original and the result is a game that is as fun playing by yourself as it is when you play online. Multiplayer is still the focus, but the single player campaign is also very well done.
Excerpt: Popular wisdom of the seventies was that “sh*t happens.” In the wake of Mechassault 2: Lone Wolf’s release, that statement should be revised. Sh*t doesn’t happen. Sh*t blows up.
Conclusion: Some would say that Earth Defense Force 2017 would benefit from having a larger budget and, in turn, higher production values. But I’m not so sure. Part of what is so incredibly endearing about this game is that it’s so technically abhorrent.
Excerpt: To start with, this game can barely be categorized as "next-gen"; the characters all look the same (including your generic uniformed defender dude, who has no name). There aren't any outrageous or flashy animations.
Summary: Well the price is certainly a factor in deciding an overall score. At full price this would be ridiculed and mocked, a dodgy frame rate and animation alongside some awful voice acting does not help matters.
