Dungeons and Dragons: DaggerDale [Video] Review (XBLA)

Gamers Daily News
22 June 2011
  • Summary: This is one of the worst D&D games I’ve seen in some time. It’s like this game design document was sitting our prior to Neverwinter Nights and Atari just dusted it off and told Bedlam to make it as is.

Dungeons & Dragons: Daggerdale

True achievements

  • Conclusion: First I was about to change my stance on if it is a good game or not based completely on the other players who I have had a great time playing with however, As i was compelting the fourth character to level 10 at about level 8 all my special abilities stopped functioning no matter how many times i mapped them to the LT X,A,B,Y button combos.

Dungeons & Dragons: Daggerdale Xbox 360 Review

Console Obsession
8 June 2011
  • Excerpt: There has been a long association between Dungeons & Dragons and computer games, and this is the first officially licensed product based on the recent 4th Edition Rules. Can this download-only experience match up to some of the finest hack & slash role-playing games of the past? The back-story is explained in the introductory sequence. An evil sorcerer has built a tower deep in the mines of Tethamyr, unleashing hordes of Goblins on the unwitting Dwarf miners.

  • Excerpt: When Dungeons & Dragons: Daggerdale was announced I was instantly excited as I have read many Forgotten Realms novels. I felt Daggerdale would make an interesting setting for a Dungeons & Dragons arcade style game. One of the first games I played for the original Xbox was Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance which was an amazing title for its time and is a must buy for me if it ever becomes a downloadable title.

Dungeons & Dragons: Daggerdale Disappoints

Game Informer
31 May 2011
  • Conclusion: Concept: Hack and slash your way through dark dungeons, hopefully with a friend Graphics: Poor texturing and lighting don’t do any favors to the already bland environments and characters Sound: Forgettable atmospheric music and sound effects, and only brief sections have voiceover Playability: Easy-to-understand controls do their job Entertainment: It’s a boring trudge made slightly better with a co-op companion at your side Replay: Low

Dungeons & Dragons: Daggerdale review (X360)

HonestGamers
26 May 2011
  • Excerpt: has a lot of glitches, very little plot, almost no enemy variety and a sloppy interface that sometimes makes playing the game a chore. The first few hours almost immediately feel tedious, but the game improves from there. Unfortunately, it never really does anything especially memorable.

Dungeons & Dragons: Daggerdale

Square-Go
19 May 2011
  • Excerpt: You know, it really is nice to see the name “Dungeons & Dragons” once again in a decent video game. Unfortunately, “decent” is about as much praise as you can muster for Dungeons & Dragons: Daggerdale . This D&D plays as your standard Diablo -style hack-and-slash; kill stuff, get loot and experience points, level up, move to new area, repeat. You get to choose your class at the start, but their sex and race is predetermined.

Dungeons and Dragons Daggerdale review

Gamedot
6 August 2011
  • Conclusion: Saving the game could be its online play, after all D&D was always intended as a multiplayer experience, but the poor game joining options and exclusion of filters such as player level add to the games many problems. The license used is one of gaming’s most historical, successful and loved, but Bedlam Games and Atari have produced a generic, sub standard and expensive game that cannot hold a torch to what the heritage deserves.
  • Pros: It’s D&D? Combat can be fun.
  • Cons: It’s not really D&D. Horrible screen tear. Numerous bugs. Generic game formula
