Excerpt: Is there a platform you can't play DOOM on? Seriously, you can even play it on your iPod. I suppose it's a testament to the title that helped spawn a new genre in video games, the first-person shooter, back in 1993. Now, 13 years later, the latest iteration of the classic makes it way to Xbox Live Arcade and I have to admit, it's still a whole hell of a lot of fun, as long as you're playing offline.
Conclusion: It’s a similar statement for the sound, which features simple background music and sound effects. Growls and gunshots are the same sound over and over, with little variety, but it’s authentic to the original. I had thought that Doom would be something I’d mess around with and quickly shelve, considering I’d already played through it when it first came out.
Excerpt: First Impressions My reaction is Doom was responsible for evolving the genre of first person shooters even though it was not the first FPS game that was created. Doom got the attention of many potential gamers back then with its fun gameplay and awesome level design. The original classic came out in 1993 and now after thirteen years Doom is again made available by Activision for download from the Xbox Live Arcade. And it still doesn’t loose its charm.
Conclusion: Lately we’ve been bemoaning the lack of real classics on Arcade but Doom is a genuine old-skool joy. Perhaps it’s only because we played the original so much that we’ve immediately fallen in love with it all over again. Modern gamers who like to aim up and enter stealth mode will probably turn their nose up at it. Whereas all you gamers in your 20s are probably playing as we type. Now we just want Doom II.
Conclusion: Juiced was originally slated for release towards the end of 2004. Unfortunately days before release, the game's original publisher Acclaim went bankrupt. It was thought that Juiced would be lost forever. Thankfully for all you street racing enthusiasts out there, the US bankruptcy judge overseeing the proceedings sold the property rights of 'Juiced' to the highest bidder, to which THQ came out on top! Developer 'Juiced Games' street racer was saved.
