Dead Space 3 (Xbox 360)

PC Magazine
2 December 2013
  • Conclusion: Despite its lack of true survival horror elements and forced, clichéd story line, Dead Space 3 keeps you on your toes and deliver compelling combat and presentation.
  • Pros: Superb combat action, intense moments, and a killer crafting system. Co-op adds more side missions and cut scenes that are worth playing through.
  • Cons: Poor storyline. Annoying fetch quests.

Dead Space 3 Awakened Review

ap.ign.com
2 April 2013
  • Conclusion: You should absolutely play Awakened if you’ve already beaten Dead Space 3. It’s one of the more original and memorable parts of Isaac’s story… which says as much about Dead Space 3 as a game as it does the quality of this DLC. The creepy atmosphere, the dementia, and the bite-sized story of devotion gone wrong stand out strongly against some of the more phoned-in story beats of the main game. Playing it did make me wonder why this style didn’t show up in the main story.

Dead Space 3 Review

DailyGame
27 March 2013
  • Excerpt: The original Dead Space saw the series’ hero, Isaac, wandering a necromorph-infested hulk of a ship, carefully rationing ammo and creeping through corridors where mostly slow-moving enemies might jump out in an attempt to kill him. Fast-forward two games, and Dead Space 3 features fast-moving necromorphs — and even some weapons-equipped humans — moving at much faster speeds through both the shadows and the open range to undo our hero.

Dead Space 3 Review

Games Abyss
25 February 2013
  • Conclusion: With single player, co-op, dozens of collectibles and different game modes that are unlocked upon your first victory, EA and Visceral definitely manage to make a game that’s worth the $59.99 price tag.
  • Pros: Craft a limitless array of destructive weaponry using the game’s new customization mechanic, then share your creations with your friend as you take on the necromorphs in some of the best co-op on the market.
  • Cons: Sigh. Game is almost completely devoid of genuine scares or terror. Difficulty scaling is wonky. Cover system and gun battle sequences are out of place and not suited to Dead Space’s controls. Story feels like it’s treading water, doesn’t take any risks and has a bizarre ending. Carver’s inclusion in the narrative seems forced and awkward.

Dead Space 3 Review

PlayDevil
22 February 2013
  • Summary: " Dead Space 3 " is a mixed bag. At its best, it’s never looked or played this well. But at its lowest points, it’s never been this repetitive, ugly, or derivative. It’s also the most hit-and-miss game in the series, with amazing levels in zero-G facing up against by-the-numbers side missions and terrible combat against human enemies the engine was never designed for.

Dead Space 3 Review

Unigamesity
17 February 2013
  • Excerpt: Dead Space 3 is, of course, the long awaited third iteration of a series that began life as a survival horror game and ended with something notably less fear inducing, but still thoroughly enjoyable. It initially struck me as odd that the series moved away from its original intentions in Dead Space 2 , opting for a more action oriented game than one with the subtle build-up of suspense followed by a BOO, gotcha moment upon which so many horror titles rely.

Dead Space 3

ActionTrip
13 February 2013
  • Conclusion: Dead Space 3 is a fun action game and a delightful ride for those who are after a decent co-op shooter. If you want to play the solo mode, the co-op bit won’t get in the way, which is fine. But you still have to realize that this is a pure shooter. We have spent a lot of hours playing, in the hope of finding at least some traces of survival horror, but to no avail.
  • Pros: This game shines as a co-op shooter, some interesting boss encounters, there are a few brilliantly designed locations in this game, there's a lot of cool stuff to unlock, great cinematic ambience;
  • Cons: The backtracking and elevator rides, as DS fans we can't deny that this is the weakest entry in the series, be it co-op or single-player it appears that any magic the series had is now lost in the murky and crowded waters of generic action games.

Dead Space 3 PC Review

AtomicGamer
5 February 2013
  • Excerpt: I know I'm probably in the minority here, but I didn't really enjoy playing the first two Dead Space games. I feel that horror action games have fallen into a rut that combined cheap scares with limitations on controls or movement along with other bits of awkwardness that turn what could be a fun, thrilling experience into a tedious one. So, does Dead Space 3 from Visceral Games and publisher EA change that formula or freshen things up? Yes, they did, but not much.

Dead Space 3

oxmonline.com
5 February 2013
  • Excerpt: Like an infection that starts small and spreads fast, the story of Dead Space has grown wildly since its inception. The first game took place mostly aboard a futuristic starship, the Ishimura , where engineer Isaac Clarke needed wits and weapons to survive the reanimated corpses on every deck. When these necromorphs returned in Dead Space 2 , it was on a giant space station where the Ishimura was docked and our hero was still recovering from his earlier trauma.
  • Pros: + Harrowingly intense combat made better by crafting your own weapons., + Well-handled cooperative play; overarching story and ending.
  • Cons: ? Why does Isaac lower his helmet in so many dangerous situations?
