Great Concept, Poor Execution

Alex Warner "tvzombie", Amazon
22 June 2009
  • Summary: Dead Rising is particularly dissapointing because its a game of great promise that is soured by strange choices made during development. The first of these is a nearly non-functional save feature that can only save a single game at once in what is effectively a single location.

Tedious and Repetitive...

Marvin Powell, Amazon
19 February 2009
  • Summary: How many times can slashing up zombies be interesting before it gets very, VERY old? That is the question 'Dead Rising' asks it's players as you play as a photojournalist sent to Willamette, Colorado (which must not be too far away from Raccoon City) to investigate a zombie outbreak in the town that...

Frustrating to play

Anonymous, Newegg
23 December 2008
  • Pros: Interesting concept and lots to do.
  • Cons: Frustrating gameplay. There were several spots I got stuck and unable to defend myself or shoot back at this one guy up on a platform. There were also many times I had no idea what I was supposed to be doing and lost objectives I didn't know I had

Disappointing

C. Seitz, Amazon
12 July 2008
  • Summary: I was very exciting for 'Dead Rising' after seeing some gameplay videos online. Unfortunately, I have yet to and likely never will complete this once promising title. First, the good. The graphics, in terms of level and character design, are very good, stylized and effective.

Excellent concept, but needs major improvements

cjay1995, Ebay
9 May 2007
  • Summary: What could be more fun that running through a vacant mall, killing zombies and rescuing hot chicks? The game has an awesome concept - you are a reporter trying to cover the story of a lifetime. To get the story, you must survive several days trapped in a mall filled with zombies.

Phantasy Star Universe Reader Review - 3.1

SSgt Killa, IGN Entertainment
29 April 2007
  • Conclusion: Welcome to a summary of my hate. When I first got this game I thought "Oh, this looks like a fun game" (I never played a Japanese before), and I really had high hopes for it. I ended up waiting a few days before being able to play it, and when I did, I found it had a slow start, long levels, no...

Dead Rising Reader Review - 3.0

GanjaKitty, IGN Entertainment
26 October 2006
  • Conclusion: Bah! I'd rather rent than buy! Dead Rising is a game I love to hate. It is the best zombie game but the way they set up how to save the game completely ruins the gameplay. It becomes very tedious to redo things over and over again. I feel that I never get anywhere in the game.

Dead Almost-Rising; Demo Very Misleading

Chris B., Newegg
23 October 2006
  • Summary: In the demo you can just go around exploring and killing zombies and have unlimited time before quests. This would be a great way to make the game, but you are always pressed for time. Another Capcom game; I would wait to see how the second one does.
  • Pros: -Many weapons -Many things to change appearance -Many health items -Near-good story -Graphics -Many zombies
  • Cons: -Bosses are very difficult; unless you know how to kill them, which means you must always use a gun or find a glitch -Bosses do not react enough to give you time to hit them back -Some of the difficult bosses respawn later in the game -The cinematics are like watching a foreign film -Escorting pe...
