Review: Red Dead Redemption (Xbox 360)

Diehard GameFAN
9 May 2011
  • Summary: Calling Red Dead Redemption a Grand Theft Auto clone does the game a huge injustice. It’s far more than that. It’s an incredibly well polished title that manages to hold its head above water in an increasingly flooded market of open world action games. The western setting may not appeal to everyone at first, but give it a chance and it hook you and never let go. This is a game oozing with production value, and the single player story is damn fun.

  • Conclusion: But the great story and the acting really increase the overall experience. This game had huge potential for me but it did not hold up to the hype. As I noticed everyone else gave this game top scores but I cant. 3/6 for Good Game wich is how much one enjoyed playing the game.

Epic but adult Western game is definitely not for kids.

Common Sense Media
28 January 2011
  • Summary: Parents need to know that Red Dead Redemption is a violent western game with very mature themes, and not suitable for kids or young teens. The action involves frequent gunfights that are both bloody and highly stylized. Players will also hunt and kill wild animals, then skin them with blood spattering the screen.

  • Pros: + Excellent gameplay, + Great multiplayer experience, + Fantastic visuals and sound, + Tons to do and people to meet, + Very similar to GTA IV
  • Cons: Connection issues in multiplayer, Too similar to GTA IV, Sometimes hard to determine friend from foe

Red Dead Redemption

Defunct Games
14 June 2010
  • Summary: Red Dead Redemption is more than a great western, it's the first time this type of game has been successfully recreated for a home game console. Others have tried, but nobody has been able to offer a world as compelling as Rockstar Games. With its lengthy story, exciting characters and fantastic online implementation, Red Dead Redemption is a must-buy for anybody who has always wanted to be a cowboy! This product was submitted by the publisher for review.

Red Dead Redemption Review

AtomicGamer
2 June 2010
  • Excerpt: There's been lots of talk lately about Rockstar Game's open-world, gun-slinging adventure Red Dead Redemption finally getting the Old West genre “right.” As I'm about to reveal in this review, it's easily the best take ever, not to mention my favorite game of the year thus far. But I still hate to see it be the only game getting full credit for successfully bringing the wild west to gamers; last year's Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood did a fine job of arming players with...

Pressed into service by the U.S. government, Mr. Marston is charged with bringing past associate Bill Williamson to justice, 1911 Western frontier style. Red Dead Redemption (X360) - Review

VGChartz
26 May 2010
  • Excerpt: Ok ok, so it’s not quite Grand Theft Auto (GTA) simply transported to a Wild West setting, but it’s not far short of the mark either. Fortunately, if, like many nowadays, you feel that GTA IV was generally wildly overrated at the time of its release, then that shouldn’t necessarily put you off Red Dead Redemption (RDR). Indeed, I include myself in that grouping, so you need only look at the score to see that RDR offers something, to me at least, that GTA IV lacked.

  • Conclusion: With some glaring glitches and some so-so mission design, I can't in good conscience give the game a 10; but make no mistake, this game is the cat's pajamas. Get it.
