Excerpt: Daytona USA has arrived on the Live Arcade. The iconic arcade racer even been given a new coat of paint, but can it still provide adequate thrills on the track? It turns out that Daytona USA is still a ton of fun. While this was a massive arcade smash, Daytona USA requires a little more finesse than most racing games. While not a simulation style racer either, the game does need more of a subtle control approach.
Excerpt: I remember playing Daytona USA many years ago. I do not want to date myself too badly, but this game makes me feel old. I remember when it was top of the line, best technology out there. Fast forward to 2011, and Sega is re-releasing it on the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 (PS3). I was provided a code to play this racing game on the Playstation 3.
Excerpt: This is the best Daytona USA ever released for play at home. Supposedly the Sega Saturn version was rushed to completion and had major graphical issues (like clipping abound), and the Dreamcast revision looked great but had sloppy controls. I say supposedly, because I haven’t played either of those ports.
Summary: Speeding out of the past from its 1993 debut, Daytona USA has been tuned up and overhauled with enhanced graphics, steering wheel support and, for the first time on home consoles, online multiplayer.
Excerpt: Nostalgia can get you along way with video games, take a look at Daytona USA, this latest attempt at porting the original arcade smash is by far the best effort yet. There have been virtually no tweaks to the original, and quite frankly, for this title is shouldn’t really be any other way, I know I wanted a nostalgic response to this game, and that is exactly what I got.
Conclusion: It looks great inspite of its age, it has the original sound track and you will lose yourself for hours with the additional mode which includes time trial, challenges (10 for each track), survival where you have to drive around one of the tracks and try to get as far as you can before the timer hits 0 and the very enjoyable karaoke mode.
Excerpt: One of my earliest racing experience was sitting in the arcade playing Daytona USA . There was nothing at the time that replicated the experience it provided – sitting in the cabinet with wheel, peddles and stick, with speakers blasting and brilliant graphics to boot. When I was nine and dreaming of being behind the wheel of a car of my own, Daytona USA was thrilling.
Summary: The re-release of Daytona USA is a phenomenal port and a grand reminder that there were once arcades, and that they were ruled by Sega. Don’t let the blocky models and dated textures deter you from settling in with one of the most satisfying racers to date. Race a few times, lose, probably lose some more, but get back in and allow its subtle charms and bright colors to lull you into a Hornet 41-induced trance—you’ll come out of it an hour later with frayed nerves and...
Excerpt: Who can forget the first time they heard those magical lyrics, ‘Rolling Start!’? Honestly, growing up in arcades probably scarred my perspective on today’s games in some fashion, but when a stupid song...
