Dark Sector

The Gamers Temple
7 September 2008
  • Excerpt: Lets face it; D3 hasn’t historically been a publisher known for quality releases. For a long time, they put out terrible PS2 game after terrible PS2 game with some licensed crap thrown in here and there for good measure (Pirates of the Caribbean, Ben 10, Kim Possible, etc.). Somehow, around a year ago, D3 quietly reversed their fortune and put out two of the very best games of 2007, Puzzle Quest: Challenge of the Warlords (available on the DS, PSP and PC) and the...

  • Conclusion: Dark Sector is a very underrated and underappreciated game. It didn't receive much press or hype and I think that actually turned out well for it, because the similarities to Gears' gameplay would have severely hurt it in most people's eyes. I really liked this game though. The story was a bit weak, but the gameplay more than made up for that.

Dark Sector Review

Strategy Gaming Online

  • Excerpt: Despite all the pre-release buzz, I paid little attention to Digital Extremes' long-gestating Dark Sector prior to its arrival. Sure, I was vaguely aware of its lengthy development cycle, overhauled concept, Australian ban and focus on the boomerang-like glaive, but the game itself never really appealed to me. To be honest, the inclusion of the multi-bladed projectile was largely responsible for my disinterest--Krull kinda killed the whole glaive thing for me years ago.

Dark Sector Review (360)

12 April 2008
  • Excerpt: A Fantastic Single Player Experience At a first glance, Dark Sector may make a fairly negative impression. After all, the developers behind this title were not shy about borrowing from other games in order to achieve their goals. The fact that the game’s protagonist not only seems to be locked into the first hour of rigor mortis, but may also be the cover boy for Emo Weekly, does nothing to help the game’s initial impression.
  • Pros: Helluva lot of fun, The Glave is amazing, Great Visuals, Multiple Powers
  • Cons: Poor Online Play, Occasionally irritating sound, A few questionable Design Choices, Story could have used some more attention
