Summary: I have played a multitude of XBOX and XBOX 360 RPGs. Thousands of hours. I hated Dark Souls 1 and kept starting and stopping it because I refused to look at the walk-throughs for advice and wanted to play on my own, so I just died too much. Eventually DS1 grew on me and I figured out the game mechanics. Now I am excited about this company's offerings and decided to pay full price for Dark Souls 2. WHAT A MISTAKE!
Summary: Demon's Souls was a fantastic game. It was fun, engaging, extremely difficult, and very rewarding when the bosses were finally killed. Dark Souls then took this and made it better. There were tougher areas, better bosses, a great story, and an overall polished and wonderful experience, even if Lost Izalith was a technically incomplete area. Dark Souls II, however, is incredibly disappointing.
Summary: First of all, I picked this game up, midnight launch at Gamestop, because I did not want to wait for UPS to get to me at five in the afternoon. I live in the city, but I guess its there route? I love amazon, but I didn't want to lose all that time I could be playing on waiting. My excitement for Dark Souls 2 was really high. (woe to me though) (Please actually bother to read my full review before actually down voting. Seriously, grow up.
Summary: I was hooked on DS1 and invested over 300 hours into it, so my expectations for the sequel were high. Granted, I have only had the game since yesterday and have only played it for a few hours, but right from the get go I was disappointed. It does not have that ominous, brooding feeling that DS1 evoked. The game seems too bright and there's noticeable screen tearing.
Summary: I absolutely loved DS1, but DS2 killed it for me, the loss of maximum health when undead is what did it for me, this mechanic takes the whole " you died you better go back and try again" out of the game and basically wants you to get it right the first time. Now it feels more like "oh you died, go try the same thing with 50% health", This KILLS all exploration and mystery in darksouls because you are too weak to go look around the world.
Summary: I have played and compleated all previous games of this series. But this is a step to far for me in fact it's become boring yes I accept I am going to die many many times but this is ridiculous in fact boring. It's just stupid to make this game harder and harder that's why this game will never ever be sold in the units that say skyrym sell. Just to add I have given up.
Summary: Honestly I was a big fan of the first one, it manage to set out what it wanted to achieve and did it well. But this one does not know what it wants to be. It is just a huge mess with poor level design and awful AI maybe even worse than the first dark souls. Enemies will stop re-spawning after so many kills and only way to spawn them is using a bonfire ascetic making the game that much harder, which for me ruins the experience.
Summary: The intro screen is very pretty (one star), as are some of the backdrops (the other star) - but the actual game just looks cheap. It's set up to make you die and die again - but for no reason that I can see. I've played this for about 15 hours, got fed up with dying, got fed up with the gameplay, got fed up with not caring. There was I suppose a challenge to beat/work out the game - but I couldn't be arsed.
