Game Over Online

  • Excerpt: As such, the game gets worse reviews than it deserves because it's a safe target, and it becomes a sort of pressure release valve for frustrated reviewers industry-wide. If you've been gaming for a while, you can probably name a good half-dozen titles like this without even trying very hard. Sometimes, a game doesn't deserve its rep. There are times when a game gets raked over the coals by reviewers because it's perceived as safe to do so.

  • Excerpt: There are times when a game gets raked over the coals by reviewers because it's perceived as safe to do so. Maybe it's from a B-list publisher, whose advertising dollars aren't so crucial as to endanger whoever's publishing the review, or maybe the company is infamous for making some truly poor games. As such, the game gets worse reviews than it deserves because it's a safe target, and it becomes a sort of pressure release valve for frustrated reviewers industry-wide.

Damnation Review

IGN Entertainment
4 July 2009
  • Conclusion: It’s kind of a shame that there’s so much wrong with Damnation , because there were spots where the level design and gameplay mechanics tried to rise above the rest. It sports a lot of platform-style sections, where you have to find your way from Point A to Point B, taking zip lines, climbing up multiple planks and handholds, and leaping across divides safely.

  • Conclusion: The sheer amount of bad elements in this game leave almost nothing positive to say, this is simply a game to avoid.

  • Excerpt: Watch the Video Review. After hearing about Damnation , a game heavily steeped in steampunk and the old west, nearly a year ago, I felt a strange compulsion wash over me like a fever. “What,” I asked myself. “Could be better than a steampunk western?

  • Excerpt: Third person action-adventure titles are ten-a-penny and have been since the entire gaming industry moved into 3D back in the nineties. There have been some standout titles, but right up there with the best of them has to be Ubisoft’s reimagining of distinctly two-dimensional Prince of Persia titles.

Damnation

Xbox Evolved
1 May 2009
  • Summary: For their first HD game, I will say hats off to the developer for achieving such vast levels, so many types of features like gunplay, bike riding, hordes of enemies, platforming (major keypoint for this game) etc. The marks deducted are basically for the textures, poor animations, poor AI, and lack of variety. I know one thing, 3 games have been developed by 3 different developers, in the last 1 year, using the same Unreal Engine.
  • Pros: Uhhhh....Shooting
  • Cons: Everything else

Damnation Reviewed

Britxbox
5 September 2009
  • Conclusion: The world of Damnation is a cross between the Wild West of Billy the Kid, and a post modern industrial era. America has been ravaged by civil war; and what remains after the war has ended is slowly being taken over by a company known as Prescott Standard Industries. In a quest to stop PSI’s brutish activities, the player assumes the role of Hamilton Rourke, and must fight alongside his rebel friends in a push to stop the opposing forces.
