Conan Xbox 360 Review
30 May 2010
Excerpt: As this is the Xbox 360 version of Conan that we tested, obviously it comes included with an achievements list. Take a look at this achievement list and you’ll realise that may of them involve you having to do nasty things to your enemies. Now whoever said you got points for killing enemies in the most gruesome way imaginable in regards to Rockstar’s Manhunt may have been wrong, but they certainly would have been correct if they had said the same for the gore bath that...
Conclusion: However on a different note, it’s nice that the
game includes some light puzzle-solving and
time-calculated platform challenges; these
provide great variant to the combat-heavy
system. There are combo upgrades and the ability
to wield different kinds of weapons; these keep
the action fresh and particularly engaging.
Conclusion: The game has a single player mode but much larger adventures will be available for online multiplayergames. In both a real time combat system is used but in multiplayer you can also control the fighting tactics of NPCs.
Excerpt: " Is that the new God of War game? " asks a visitor to the office last week. " No ," I reply. " It's the Conan game. It does look a lot like God of War though ." For anyone who knows their video game characters, the differences between Kratos and Conan are huge, but throw the game in front of a part-time gamer and the reaction is to be expected.
Conclusion: One bit of advice would be to try to make it into the battle with a full health meter or you may have to go back to the previous save--the Serpent Queen and Bone Cleaver II will wipe your health out very quickly if you're not careful. So I played it through on normal, hard, then King levels, unlocking the cheats as I went--except the weapon mastery cheat. Don't unlock this one until you hammer through the weapon mastery achs or they won't pop (I think).
Summary: If you're a huge fan of Howard's hulking Cimmerian and also a big-time action gaming fan, then Conan is probably worth a buy. Though the game is on the short side, the action is fast, furious, and relentless. If you didn't say 'yes' to both those criteria, however, then this one likely slips down to just a solid weekend rental.
