Braid is a puzzle-platformer, drawn in a painterly style, where the player manipulates the flow of time in strange and unusual ways. From a house in the city, journey to a series of worlds and solve puzzles to rescue an abducted princess. In each world, you have a different power to affect the way time behaves, and it is time’s strangeness that creates the puzzles. The time behaviors include: the ability to rewind, objects that are immune to being rewound, time that i…
When Xbox LIVE Arcade was announced there was this hope that it would be a platform for original, quirky games that would otherwise struggle to find a publisher. The service has certainly seen some incredibly high quality games (Geometry Wars 2 just last week is amazingly polished), but Braid finally fulfils that promise. It's a game like nothing you've ever played before and something we can't recommend highly enough. Read more
Every element is so cohesive – the story is a sophisticated and very personal tale which intertwines with the personal design obsessions of its author. Together, Jon Blow and David Hellman have created something which looks and feels as though it were poured rather than built. Braid somehow feels as though it has always existed; as if it were some memory of a game you played long ago. It’s like a classic platformer nobody ever got around to making – the mold was... Jigsaw puzzles were commercialized by John Spilsbury, a London mapmaker, in 1760. The first jigsaw puzzles were originally created after someone painted a picture on a piece of wood that was than cut in to many pieces with a jigsaw, which is where the name comes from. Read more
Braid can be finished in just a few hours, which might make the $15 price tag seem a bit high. But do not let a few extra dollars deter you from an exemplary experience that can rival many full-price, retail games. Braid is worth every penny. The captivating ending sequence, which makes use of your rewind ability in a jaw-dropping new way, provides the exclamation point on this remarkable game, but the adventure is consistently engaging throughout the entire ride. In my opinion, this generation of gaming hasn't been that great when compared to the previous one. It seems to me that major developers have forgone innovation, and the majority of games being released are comprised of sequels and copycat titles. While there have been a few innovative titles (and there seems to be more and more as time passes), there is still a lot of catching up to do. Read more
I was extreamly dissapointed in this Game and shocked at how high the review scores were. Some of the puzzles were enjoyable to solve and others were very complicated to the point of frustrating. I cant belive a couple or reveiws accually mentioned Mario. The "adult story" was absolutly rotten and only (poorly) explained once the game has been completed. I checked on the net and there is about 5 different versions to what the games story means. It is in no way worth 1400... Read more
I was curious about the discrepancies in the screenshots as well. Thanks for the answer Christian. Now I just have to figure out what you mean by this secret star collection nonsense Could I really have missed an entire hidden game feature? I’m also a bit bothered by the idea that the entire game experience was anything more than a big metaphor. Are you saying that the red books indicate some kind of actual reality in the Tim character’s experience? I has just... Read more
The mechanics on this game are simple and flawless. Mario Bros. with rewind and pause. If you haven't played it, you are missing out on some life altering epiphanies, lol. Just kidding, but there are some really fun levels that really pick your brain. This was one of the few games that intrigued me to attempt a leader board full game speed run. I was in the top 100 at one point, but didn't become obsessed with it. The last level was probably dreamed of by Jimi Hendrix. Read more
This game is original and solid in all aspects. It makes you think outside the box. It separates the morons like adam drew from humans who don't have to be hand fed. Read more
With amazing visuals and interesting gameplay, Braid is a great game. The background paintings and animated characters are bright and beautiful, and the sound track is a mix of well-picked orchestral songs. Braid also boasts some very original, very cool puzzles mostly dealing with the manipulation of time. However, Braid has plenty of shortcomings. First, the storytelling. Before every chapter the story is told through several long and cryptic text passages. Despite... Read more
