Bloodforge

True achievements
6 June 2012
  • Conclusion: I may try to start this game again from the beginning and do more dodges with the smaller enemies so as to conserve my potions. I love the game visually, the combat system itself is well done, though I would've liked being able to change the difficulty setting so I could get the chance to enjoy the...

  • Excerpt: I was hopeful when I first witnessed Bloodforge, one of XBLA’s more recent entries. It appeared to be a lengthy title that would provide hours of classic beat-‘em-up gameplay intermixed with a potentially intriguing story.

Bloodforge (Xbox Live Arcade) Review

411mania.com
11 May 2012
  • Summary: Fans of God of War or Ninja Gaiden may want to give this a trial before plopping down $15.00 on a very short and shallow game. The gameplay is fun and is full of bloody goodness if you are willing to master its battle system and have patience to realize this is not a simple hack n slash affair.

Bloodforge Review (Xbox LIVE Arcade)

Gamers Daily News
30 April 2012
  • Summary: A derivative, repetitive hack and slash with cliche story and controls. Almost feels like Microsoft trying to take on Kratos and God of War, but falling far, far short of the mark.

  • Conclusion: One area that hasn’t been explored too much in terms of mythology is that of the Celts: a European tribal people heavily focused in Great Britain who were prominent during the time of the Roman Empire.

  • Excerpt: I always look forward to the Xbox Live promotions. We usually get to see some truly remarkable games that may not have gotten as much attention throughout their development. XBLA Next is definitely ripe...
  • Pros: + Dark, gloomy art style, + Combat is visceral
  • Cons: Combat is also hectic, Camera induces headaches, Narrative feels forced

Bloodforge

Gamereactor
27 April 2012
  • Conclusion: Let me spoil your appetite right away. Bloodforge should not be compared to the God of War series, in fact it has more in common with the mediocre hack n' slash games that came before the original God of War on Playstation 2. So what does the game do well?
  • Pros: + Nice visual style + Decent combo system + Celtic twist feels fresh.
  • Cons: - Repetitive - Repetitive - Repetitive - Horrible camera - Feels too much like a last gen hack n' slash.
