Assassin’s Creed II

Square-Go
29 March 2010
  • Excerpt: The original Assassin’s Creed (AC) , while technically impressive, was prone to long, dull and repetitive sections interspacing the action with enough horse riding to give you saddle sores. Assassin’s Creed II (AC2) is a satisfying improvement, proving that developers Ubisoft have listened to feedback, making the game less of the travelogue and adding more of that juicy action you wanted.

GameSpot
2 March 2010
  • Summary: Florence is such a beautiful city, who wouldn't want to make a return visit? Assassin's Creed II: Bonfire of the Vanities provides a good reason to do a little more sightseeing, though it involves one of Renaissance Italy's less reputable chapters. In 1497, Dominican priest Girolamo Savonarola and his supporters publicly burned books, paintings, musical instruments--any objects he associated with secular decadence and moral decay.
  • Pros: Political and religious themes reminiscent of the original Assassin's Creed, Small but beautiful new area to explore, New targets to murder and new towers to climb
  • Cons: Major audio problems, Some of the missions are more frustrating than fun

Assassin’s Creed II (Xbox360)

EL33TONLINE

  • Excerpt: of Assassin’s Creed when it released at the end of 2007, so I don’t really have a point of reference from which to draw worthy comparisons to the latest entry into the open-world action adventure series, Assassin’s Creed II, but from the tone of message board denizens and internet commentators the world over, the original is one of the most divisive games of the last few years.

Assassin's Creed II Review

G4
17 November 2009
  • Summary: It's not uncommon for a developer to take criticism to heart and incorporate changes in ensuing games, but the structural overhaul done to Assassin's Creed II exposes the indefensible flaws of the first game. Some older things didn't get fixed, and some new things were broken in the process, but the Montreal studio is definitely sending the message that this is what they've wanted to do from the beginning. It shows.
  • Pros: Massive Improvements from First Game, Engrossing Past and Present Plotlines, Outstanding Soundtrack
  • Cons: Ezio Has Movement Issues, In-game Economy Becomes Meaningless, Noticeably Glitchy In Areas

GAME REVIEW – Assassin’s Creed 2 (Xbox 360)

Alternative Magazine Online
28 March 2010
  • Conclusion: Never once did the crippling tedium from the first game rear its ugly head and everything felt perfectly paced. When you start to ache for some new toy to play with, the game will deliver you one. Quite wonderful, even though I now look at teenagers in white hoodies with an increasingly suspicious eye. It turns out the advert wasn’t lying.

  • Conclusion: I've got to recommend it as a purchase - if only because the fantastic free-running, beautiful Italian vistas and engrossing Animus world far outweigh any ludicrous ending or shaky start. If you didn't finish the first Assassin's Creed however, you would do well to find some background information on the story using the magic of the internet - something you really shouldn't have to do.
