Armored Core 4 Review

IGN Entertainment
9 February 2008
  • Conclusion: In the same way I hoped that Tony Hawk’s Project 8 would really resonate with me for a change and get me to enjoy the skateboarding genre more, I had hoped that Armored Core 4 would be versatile and innovative enough to get me to enjoy the mech action/strategy games more. Alas that wasn’t the case, as I found that many of the foibles that pushed me away from long sessions of previous AC titles still exist today.

  • Conclusion: With that said, there isn't a whole lot of choice for match fans on the latest generation of consoles at the moment; and with that in mind, AC4 will probably sell regardless of the flaws outlined above. From Software have effectively cornered the market on the 360 with this release and last year's fairly well-received ChromeHounds, but this is a genre crying out for a dose of originality and a solid implementation.

Armored Core 4

  • Conclusion: If you're a fan of Japanese mech games, you may be able to squeeze a little bit of fun out of Armored Core 4. But if you aren't a particularly big fan of the genre, don't expect to have much fun with this game. With a boring and hard to follow story and incredibly short missions that play out on levels you've already played several times, the single player portion of Armored Core 4 is mediocre at best.

Armored Core 4

Defunct Games
11 May 2007
  • Summary: With is short missions and cumbersome customizing options, Armored Core 4 isn't nearly as entertaining as it should be. But if you can get past some of the rough technical problems then you should be able to have a good time with this flawed but still enjoyable mech game. This product was submitted by the publisher for review. As a rule, Defunct Games does not review games we spent money on. However, that does not always apply to classic/retro games.

No Brain Mech Combat!

Britxbox
26 December 2007
  • Conclusion: Armored Core 4 is if some sources are to be believed the 12th instalment of the Armored Core series, that's some pedigree right there, but a long running series does not necessarily mean a good game. This title, brought to us by 505 Games, based in Milton Keynes and From Software also known for titles such as Chrome Hounds , is at first glance yet another lacklustre instalment in a series of games being flogged to death.

  • Conclusion: After ten years you’d think the developers would have worked out how to give us attention to detail without bogging the gamer down with technical specs and complicated controls. But who says developers ever learn?
  • Pros: Lots of customisable mech options, Fun multiplayer
  • Cons: Bland graphics, Boring missions, Poor targeting system, Unfriendly to newcomers
