Arcania: Gothic 4

ActionTrip
3 December 2010
  • Conclusion: To make things as short as possible, Arcania: Gothic 4 needs something to pull it away from the colossal bog of generic gaming, which is its current home. There's nothing distinctive about the world we're allowed to explore. Additionally, you have rather basic combat mechanics and a crude and uninspiring character development system. This is just another action RPG, destined to get lost in the ocean of other similar-looking games (did I say ocean, I meant pond...
  • Pros: Looks and sounds very nice, it's easy to get into and there are plenty of items to toy around with;
  • Cons: Besides the lush environment, nothing motivates players to stay in this world, simple gameplay and simple quest structure, awful English subs (or voiceovers if you will), uninteresting story and characters, there's nothing challenging about this game.

  • Excerpt: Gothic 4 is an over-the-shoulder-camera RPG much like Oblivion or Mass Effect, but it leaves much of the role-playing activities out. The result is a game that would ordinarily be action heavy, like a graphically superior version of Torchlight, had the overall story and action not been so dull.

Arcania: Gothic 4

Game Over Online
22 November 2010
  • Excerpt: The Good: Stunningly beautiful realm The Bad: containing a lackluster and somewhat dull adventure The Ugly: which I hesitate to call an RPG as most contemporary role-playing elements are missing I am likely not the best person to be reviewing Arcania: Gothic 4. For one, though I like RPGs a great deal, I tend to fixate on one in particular for a very long time and play it to exhaustion, and so miss many fine entries into the RPG market that would serve as a basis of...

Arcania: Gothic 4

Console Monster
12 February 2011
  • Summary: Arcania Gothic 4 is an action RPG from Spellbound Entertainment, and the first of the Gothic series to make it on to the console platforms. All previous outings have been on the PC, with one mobile title exception, starting back in 2001, so how well has the transition taken? Arcania does feel very much like a PC RPG shoehorned in to a console skin, something that's particularly evident on the inventory screens, but overall it handles well with a pad, if just a little bit...
  • Pros: Pleasant vistas and surroundings, Plenty of quests to find and complete, Simplicity makes it approachable
  • Cons: The story isn't compelling, The voice acting unappealing, Quests are very generic and similar

Arcania: Gothic IV Review

MMGN
10 December 2010
  • Summary: Arcania: Gothic IV is no different, and while the story might have issues with pacing, it won’t distract you from the experience. It lets you play at your own pace, with plenty of great looting objectives and a very detailed and lively world. It’s not overly linear but still occasionally holds your hand. However, while Gothic IV is certainly not without problems, it’s a decent RPG experience for fans of the genre while they wait for the next Elder Scrolls .

Gothic 4 : Arcania

xboxfrance.com
30 March 2011
