Summary: This is the first of it's kind of game that I've played on the Xbox 360, being a flight simulator of some kind. It is a Helicopter fighter simulator, so obviously you'll be flying around gunning down ground infantry, boats, and of course other helicopters. The only thing I've played similar to this, is flying Helicopters in Battlefield 3 and the Google Earth Flight Simulator. This game was a definite switch of style for me.
Summary: Apache: Air Assault is a fun, if middling and apparently somewhat rushed, helicopter flight simulator, something that was sorely needed on the current generation of systems. When first playing the demo I was highly impressed by the actual gameplay and the nicely-rendered graphics and full, realistic sound effects...but my one recurring thought was "I need a human-controlled gunner.
Summary: Having played helicopter sims over the years, this game has the right balance of arcade fun and realistic controls. You can deity between easier controls and opting for the harder, more realistic controls (harder but once you master it, it's really satisfying). It's just great fun flying all round the maps, skimming the tree tops, taking out all the enemies.
Summary: I bought this game on a whim, just because I really like flying the Buzzard on Grand Theft Auto and a friend recommended this. I really can't express how much fun this game is. I always play on realistic difficulty, and it took me less than half an hour to master the controls. It's an action-packed campaign with time to just fly around if you wish, and as such it can't be described as a flight simulator; if that's what you're looking for then this game isn't for you.
Summary: I bought this game about 2 months ago and ive enjoyed it so far. Ive read alot of reviews here that say things like "I cant fly it" or "Its to difficult" but don't listen to them. Its the fact that this game can be quite tricky and skillfull that makes it so appealing IMO. If you know a little about how a helicopter actually flies then you will pick this up with no issues. It is, in the end, a great big fan which you just point in the direction you want to go.
Conclusion: One of the best flight sims ever, if your in to these sort of games then I highly recommend it. The only reason I did'nt give it 5 stars is because the enemy seem to have mastered the art of shooting you when your ducking down behind cover and they have guns with the longest range of any weapon you'll ever see in any game.
Conclusion: This game is fantastic. So realistic, you think you are there. Even better when you switch to FLIR and take out ground troops....I hope they make a second version as I think that it could be improved....When you switch to FLIR, there is not much result when you take out a mobile ground unit...vehicles should explode better than the puff of smoke they go up in....Ground troops too just backflip and fall to the ground when shot through the FLIR system...C'mon..
Conclusion: i aggree with the above review, after having played the demo on live i will deffinateley be buying the full game. the flight physics are great and yes using the 30mm HE cannon from a distance is very satisfying. there is a lot of attention to detail and with the ability to "pimp" your chopper with decals and other paint jobs then the online should be pretty good to.
Summary: I'll cut to the chase: pretty much all combat flight simulators on consoles are rubbish when compared to their hardcore PC counterparts. I believe this is because the developers may be fans of the PC genre but are driven by economics to make a hybrid arcade/sim title that is more accessible to a demographic that has a lower concentration span and not willing to learn.
