Ultimate Spider-Man

The Gamers Temple
26 December 2005
  • Excerpt: Sure, I know Spider-Man. I've seen the movies, and even used to read the comic books back in the day. But this isn't the Spidey I grew up with or the one from the recent movies. Nope this Spider-Man should probably be called Spider-Boy, or maybe Spider-Dude, and he is from the comic book series called Ultimate Spider-Man. You see, Ultimate Spider-Man is a series that looks at a slightly different Spider-Man. It does have Peter Parker (a.k.a.

Game Info Wire

  • Excerpt: Pick the game up for a weekend and see if Spider-Man or Venom feel like a good alter-ego; if not, it at least will be fun to open a can of whoop-ass on Wolverine.

Ultimate Spider-Man

Into Liquid Sky
10 December 2005
  • Excerpt: With two games based on the movies, it was about time that a Spider-Man game was based on the comic books. But, instead of taking a shot at the standard Spider-Man universe (also known as Earth 616 ), this game takes the revised story as told in the Ultimate Spider-Man series. This isn't too much of a bad idea as the standard Marvel universe is becoming worse than pre-Crisis DC.
  • Pros: Looks just like a comic book come to life, Boos fights are pretty fun, Lots of unlockables, Tons to do and find outside of main story
  • Cons: Spidey sounds too young at times, Too many chase sequences, A bit short

Ultimate Spider-Man

The Armchair Empire
17 October 2005
  • Conclusion: play out like comic book panels. It never breaks from this, even in the menus. The story that begins Ultimate Spider-Man shows the father of Peter Parker and Eddie Brock working on a cure for cancer. The result is the black goo that changes Eddie into the powerful Venom, Spider-Man’s arch nemesis. The plot and story, as short as it is, rolls out from there and the player alternates between Spider-Man and Venom (as dictated by the story).

Ultimate Spider-Man

Game Over Online
13 October 2005
  • Excerpt: Some games are both enjoyable and frustrating at the same time. Ultimate Spider-Man sports a quality story, great graphics, and two genuinely different styles of gameplay. On the other hand, that gameplay includes positively infuriating chase sequences and a distinct lack of freedom during certain instances. Ultimate Spider-Man does a lot of things properly. As a fan of the character from back in the day, I enjoyed the writing most of all.

Evil Avatar
10 October 2005
  • Excerpt: Treyarch and Activision are back with another Spider-Man game, Ultimate Spider-Man, however this one takes place in the Marvel’s Ultimate Universe. For those who aren’t familiar with Marvel’s Ultimate Universe, it offers updated versions of their mainstream heroes and villains; Spider-Man, Avengers, X-Men and the Fantastic Four to name just a few.

  • Conclusion: Lowdown Ultimate Spider-Man is a beautifully put together game that will make a lasting impression on anyone who witnesses it in action. Unfortunately they have lost a lot of features that helped make last years game so special and traded them in for a more cosmetically approved storyline. You will not be disappointed with end product and the Venom sequences really help break up the gameplay.
