Excerpt: When Activision released Spider-Man 2 for the PC the reviews were pretty harsh. In comparison to the console version it fell short in many aspects. Ultimate Spider-Man attempts to correct some of the mistakes, but this is one game that can still make many more improvements. However, the art, design, and animation in Ultimate Spider-Man are excellent. Unfortunately the gameplay, storyline, and controls are not.
Excerpt: With two games based on the movies, it was about time that a Spider-Man game was based on the comic books. But, instead of taking a shot at the standard Spider-Man universe (also known as Earth 616 ), this game takes the revised story as told in the Ultimate Spider-Man series. This isn't too much of a bad idea as the standard Marvel universe is becoming worse than pre-Crisis DC.
Pros: Looks just like a comic book come to life, Boos fights are pretty fun, Lots of unlockables, Tons to do and find outside of main story
Cons: Spidey sounds too young at times, Too many chase sequences, A bit short
Conclusion: play out like comic book panels. It never breaks from this, even in the menus. The story that begins Ultimate Spider-Man shows the father of Peter Parker and Eddie Brock working on a cure for cancer. The result is the black goo that changes Eddie into the powerful Venom, Spider-Man’s arch nemesis. The plot and story, as short as it is, rolls out from there and the player alternates between Spider-Man and Venom (as dictated by the story).
Excerpt: Some games are both enjoyable and frustrating at the same time. Ultimate Spider-Man sports a quality story, great graphics, and two genuinely different styles of gameplay. On the other hand, that gameplay includes positively infuriating chase sequences and a distinct lack of freedom during certain instances. Ultimate Spider-Man does a lot of things properly. As a fan of the character from back in the day, I enjoyed the writing most of all.
Excerpt: Treyarch and Activision are back with another Spider-Man game, Ultimate Spider-Man, however this one takes place in the Marvel’s Ultimate Universe. For those who aren’t familiar with Marvel’s Ultimate Universe, it offers updated versions of their mainstream heroes and villains; Spider-Man, Avengers, X-Men and the Fantastic Four to name just a few.
Conclusion: Lowdown Ultimate Spider-Man is a beautifully put together game that will make a lasting impression on anyone who witnesses it in action. Unfortunately they have lost a lot of features that helped make last years game so special and traded them in for a more cosmetically approved storyline. You will not be disappointed with end product and the Venom sequences really help break up the gameplay.
