Tony Hawk's Underground 2
The Armchair Empire
21 December 2004
Conclusion: THPS player, you can skip the story and shred and skate the original THPS gameplay without the craptacular storyline. Let’s deal with the story first. You’re on a World Destruction Tour as part of Tony Hawk’s team versus Bam Margera’ s team. Your goal? Travel the world, creating skating-related mayhem.
Excerpt: If something isnt broken, dont fix it right? The crew over at Neversoft have tried to stick to this system over the 5 previous installments of the Tony Hawk series, and then changed things up last time with a branch off into the underground. Now with Tony Hawks Underground 2: World Destruction Tour, they heard the complaints from the fans and have made this game to please old and new fans alike.
Excerpt: When we talk about great franchises in sports gaming, most often we think of the great football, baseball, and basketball series that have graced the game store shelves for the past decade. In the world of "extreme sports", we see very few series last more than one release. Although some have released a sequel or two, no "extreme sports" series comes close to touching the success and longevity of the "Tony Hawk Pro Skater" series from Activision and Neversoft.
Excerpt: The plotline behind THUG 2 takes a number of sharp turns practically from the start of the game. Your character (one that you design using the considerable character editing tools of the game) is skating at home with a crowd of neighborhood kids cheering them on. Suddenly a van pulls up, shoving you into the back and driving off. When you come to, you discover you’re not the only victim of this drive by kidnapping.
Excerpt: If you've picked up a controller in the past six years, you've become accustomed to the domination of the extreme genre by Tony Hawk. The Birdman has single handedly revolutionized the skateboard game with solid controls, tons of characters and expansive environments packed with ramps and half pipes. What’s more, when the franchise seemed to get a bit stale with its lineup of pro skaters, Hawk turned the field on its ear with THUG.
Conclusion: Tony Hawk's Underground 2 is like a caffeinated sugar buzz with a dash of red cordial. It's played at million miles per hour and usually ends in a body jarring, bone snapping, blood spraying smack! There's so much to the game it's hard to describe and explain it all from the confines of this HTML page, but suffice it to say that Neversoft has done it again.
