Conclusion: It’s about time that Lara Croft received the prime treatment. While many gamers put such a strong emphasis on the British beauty, Tomb Raider Legend would be a solid action adventure title, even without Ms. Croft as the heroine. With a renewed focus on adventure and the inclusion of a less restrictive control scheme, Crystal Dynamics has managed to rekindle the fading flame of the Tomb Raider franchise.
Excerpt: When Lara Croft first appeared in the original Tomb Raider game, she quickly established herself as the queen of action-adventure gaming. In the intervening ten years since then, her crown has become somewhat tarnished thanks to some sub-par games released in the interim. Now the Dark Ages have passed and Lara Croft is back in Tomb Raider: Legend, reasserting her role as the reigning queen. Long live the queen!
Excerpt: For one of the industry's most recognisable characters, Lara hasn't appeared in that many great games. 1997's tomb Raider II was her last quality outing, with her adventures since then being rather mixed. Expectations for Legend, then, were mixed, as the title could have gone in either direction. Thankfully Eidos and Crystal Dynamics have come up with the goods, delivering a Tomb Raider game fans will love, and a next-gen version to boot.
Conclusion: Tomb Raider Legend is a game that certainly has its flaws. The combat engine is workable and decent enough, but poor AI and some tricky lock-on are what hurt the most. The motorcycle moments also leave a lot to be desired but on the flipside you get to drive a forklift which makes up for it. Easily the best parts of this game involve the adventuring which is everything that a Tomb Raider game should have been from the third game on.
Conclusion: Now I will admit I am not in the age group that this game is aimed at, but at the same token I am still a kid at heart and I can see a lot of kids really enjoying this game. Like I said in Tak 2 this is one of those games that shies away from the typical children’s game, which usually turns out to be a cheap way for companies to make a buck.
Conclusion: What kind of sound would you expect to hear when you are playing chess? Well I would mind some Alternative music but that wasn’t going to happen. So like expected the game includes very soft relaxing background music that is there to sooth the soul. The voice in the game like in all chess games can be quite irritating but it is a step ahead of other chess games that have been released. Overall there is nothing overly wrong with the sound, it basically is just there.
Summary: This new game doesn?t reinvent the wheel, but it does offer a solid a gameplay experience for those who are fans of the franchise. There are moments that are fun, such as the Japan level, and there are moments when frustration will kick in. The challenge of trying to figure out the secrets of Lara?s past does keep you playing to discover another piece of information.
Conclusion: It's a fact; Lara has made a successful comeback in Tomb Raider: Legends. This multi-platform adventure from the most popular lady in gaming is like you remember your Lara. Tomb Raider Legends is a good game worth your investment of time, although I would weigh the option of renting over buying mainly because of the games length. I feel the Tomb Raider series is back on track and I'm already anticipating the return of a clearly focused next generation Tomb Raider game.
Conclusion: Despite taking the safe road Tomb Raider Legend is still a really good game and a solid return to form. The only bad thing is that it is extremely short. Lovers of long, intricate puzzle games may be left wanting here. But for others the deliberate inclusion of well-hidden secrets and the challenge of level time-trials will more than make up for this briefness. Or they may just be really sad and want to unlock the costume of Lara in her bikini!
Pros: fun acrobatic environments, solid gameplay, enjoyable story, a return to form
