Summary: In keeping with my tradition of playing and reviewing games that are now ancient by gaming standards, I am proud to present my review of "The Thing" for original Xbox. If you've been on the fence for the last seven years, unsure of whether or not to make this purchase, wait no more! Having just finished the game, I am here to tell you that yes, it is a good buy.
Summary: As a fan of John Carpenter's 1982 cult classic The Thing, I have to say that I loved this game. The history of games based on movies and movies based on games have proven to be poor for the most part but it's not the case here. This game is a sequel to the film which was executed very, very well. It has a good story, but what impressed me the most was the gameplay, especially managing fear and trust with your squad members which was a theme in the movie.
Summary: You know it's cheaper to buy used Xbox Games to play on Xbox 360 especially when you have HDTV and component cable. This is great renewal of game experience in all new level. Especially, nowadays with Xbox 360 being mainstream, the game prices of used Xbox games are going down fast. Better get those games before all turns into collectibles.
Summary: The Thing rocks. From the very begining this game is scary. You start out as a soldier sent out looking for survivors in a destroyed science base in antarctica but find only mangled or frozen bodies, and scattered papers that describe some kind of mutating infection. Later you find a fellow soldier, cowering in a corner, surrounded by mutilated bodys and babbeling about an unknown horror.
Summary: This game is not perfect in design. But it is survival horror at it's best and the controls beat Resident Evil and Silent Hill. The Thing is one of the most tense games I have ever played. From the grotesque mosnters to your own squad mates commiting suicide, you never really relax. One great gameplay dynamic is that you have to dish out the ammo and food. But you have to be careful if your squadmate has turned into the thing.
Summary: The Thing is a game that is great with graphics/storyline but poor in other areas. You can't save where you want. Some parts in the game are way too hard to get through. It would be a 5 star game if it had a format to save anyplace you want and perhaps a difficulty setting. All in all the game was ok. The price is ok too. Don't pay over 20 dollars for it.
