Conclusion: The best thing to say about THQ’s and Volition’s The Punisher is that it more than does its officially licensed entity justice. We see it with so many movies turned into videogames; the games are simply bad representations of good films and/or characters. This is not the case with The Punisher game, which should help propel copies of the comic off the shelves, rather than assisting them in sitting there to collect dust.
Excerpt: Forget Spiderman, throw away your X-men and allow room for what’s setting up to be the best comic book based game of the year, The Punisher. Twelve thugs against one man… really unfair; the twelve don’t stand a chance as they’re torn apart by the most gruesome comic book anti-hero, Frank Castle A.K.A. the Punisher, and that’s exactly what the player gets to do in this excellent 3rd person shoot ‘em up. From start to finish The Punisher is a splendid game to look at.
Conclusion: That’s pretty much all there is to the game, but it’s done so well I love it! The more people you kill the more you score, the more you kill without taking a bullet yourself the higher your combat multiplier goes up. This rewards you with “style” points – the more you get the more you are rewarded. These rewards can allow you to buy upgrades so that later levels become a little easier and also open up extra play modes – such as CHALLENGE or PUNISHMENT.
Pros: Its just plain fun., Immensely replayable., Rewarding gameplay.
Cons: Definitely not a game for Richard & Judy-watching Daily Mail readers.
