The Matrix: Path of Neo

The Gamers Temple
22 October 2006
  • Excerpt: The Matrix: The Path of Neo is somewhat of an apology from the folks that brought you the film trilogy and related games. It’s the game that should have been released along with Reloaded and Revolutions instead of Enter the Matrix, since The Path of Neo actually parallels the films. It lets you play as Neo instead of putting you in the role of a minor character taking part in events in the war with the machines too insignificant to make it into the movies.

The Matrix: Path of Neo

Into Liquid Sky
9 June 2006
  • Excerpt: Path of Neo is the next console game based on the popular Matrix franchise. A lot of people were quite disappointed in Enter The Matrix . That game had an interesting premise but didn't come out quite well, and lets face it…. Everyone wanted to be Neo and not some side characters barely mentioned in the movies. So Shiny and Atari have come out with another game based on The Matrix and this time it's Neo all the way.
  • Pros: Nice presentation of the movies, Good melee combat, Awesome sound
  • Cons: What happened to some of the graphics?, Stu.. Stuttt.. Stuttering Framerate, What happened with the gun gameplay?

  • Conclusion: While this isn't a great game, it is a good one. The training levels are too long and not that interesting, but the fighting system is good. It allows for impressive moves without a lot of complex button sequences and these look fantastic on the screen. In the final analysis though, a game is only good if the player had fun working their way through the various levels. I found it very enjoyable, even with the flaws.

Game Over Online
7 December 2005
  • Excerpt: Obviously, with a game that pulls its source material from a trilogy (and a separately released prequel disc) as well as a name like Path of Neo, you’d expect that the storyline would follow the plot of the movie exactly. Well, you’d be about half right. The story behind Path of Neo is much more like an remix of all four films, with narrative taken and pieced together from quickly edited cutscenes that re-examines every step of Neo’s journey from hapless hacker...

The Matrix: Path of Neo

Game Over Online
7 December 2005
  • Excerpt: I remember when Enter the Matrix was announced, the disappointment voiced by players and critics alike when they discovered they couldn’t play as Neo was extremely strong. After all, why play minor characters like Ghost or Niobe, regardless of the different ways you could play, when you could be Neo, the prophesied savior of the human race? While that might not have been the downfall of that title, it definitely wasn’t the experience that everyone expected.

  • Conclusion: The Matrix: Path of Neo was mainly created for Matrix fans, and not the uber hardcore who will just hate anything different from the pictures. It's great to have a game where you can be Neo in the Matrix world. All the right "Matrix" effects and pivotal points have been captured from the movies, and you should have a blast playing through your favorite parts.
