Tecmo Classic Arcade Review

IGN Entertainment
11 March 2010
  • Conclusion: If I could buy Bomb Jack , Rygar , Solomon’s Key , and Strato Fighter for five dollars I would, but I can’t. Thirty bucks is what you’ll have to pay to play these eleven games and view the weak extras, and frankly, it’s hard to determine if it is worth it seeing as how many of these games are little known to Western coin-op gamers.

The Laser

  • Summary: Tecmo Classic Arcade for the Xbox is the latest in a long series of classic emulation packs for the current generation of consoles. Mixing obscure titles such as Strato Fighter and Pleiads with well-known franchises such as Rygar and Tecmo Cup, the compilation offers an excellent view of the company in its classic era. The emulation of each game is excellent, and the authentic screen proportions help to bring the titles back to life.

The Armchair Empire

  • Conclusion: few pages of original pamphlet material, there’s nothing else. No videos, no developer interviews, no videogame historian recounting each arcade game’s effect on the industry (if any) in a serious, monotone voice. I like the nostalgia hit but I love background information, tidbits on the development of a game that were only rumor until a member of the development spills the beans. So if you’re expecting some historical retrospective you’ll be disappointed.

Game Freaks 365

  • Excerpt: Believe it or not, Tecmo has been in business a long time making video games; about 25 years to be exact. In this long period of time, Tecmo has been releasing quality games for both the home consoles and the arcade. With the revival of classic gaming in the compilation discs, Tecmo is taking a crack at it with their Tecmo Classic Arcade game exclusively for the Xbox. You may not remember many of these games, nor if they were made by Tecmo.

Tecmo Classic Arcade

DarkStation

  • Conclusion: Tecmo Classic Arcade would have been a fine compilation, even with these arcade games had the price been lower. I am sorry you cannot expect to sell eleven, old classic games for $29.99 and expect anyone to be excited about it. I don’t care how great your classic games are, an unwritten precedent has been set for compilations to go for twenty dollars and this extra ten dollars just seems uncalled for.

Tecmo Classic Arcade Review

GameSpot
19 September 2005
  • Excerpt: Retro arcade game collections have become a serious fad in the gaming industry, with multiple entries from companies such as Midway, Namco, and Capcom, to name a few. Temco Classic Arcade is the latest to enter this arena, and it includes 11 arcade games from gaming's yesteryear. The games are all emulated quite well, but aside from the couple of big-name titles featured, many of the games included in this suite are simply not worth playing.
  • Pros: Near-perfect arcade emulation, Four-player Tecmo Bowl in HD, Gallery for the hardcore fans
  • Cons: Omission of obvious choices such as Silk Worm and Ninja Gaiden, Inability to remap keys, Inability to remap keys, No online scoreboards or other interactivity

Test : Tecmo Classic Arcade

GameHope
