Street Hoops Review

IGN Entertainment
11 March 2010
  • Excerpt: Games like NBA Jam have been around since the original Sega Genesis. Through time the fast paced, unrealistic genre of basketball games has taken many twists and turns. There have been games of this type on every system to date, including the Xbox. Well the newest one released on the Xbox is from Activision and goes by the name Street Hoops. Activision pulled out all the fireworks to try and make Street Hoops differ from the other basketball games in this genre.

Thunderbolt Games

  • Excerpt: The NBA may feature the best basketball in the world, but it’s certainly not the only game of hoops worth watching. Far beyond the bright lights of NBA arenas in various public street courts across America, a much grittier version of roundball is being played. Though not having multi-million dollar contracts or lucrative endorsement deals, players who take part in this ‘underground’ basketball movement still play with a passion and talent that often rivals what is seen...

  • Summary: If you're a hardcore basketball fan that must play everything that comes out of the poop shoot then go ahead and rent this one. The hip-hop stereotypes and plain gameplay might even entertain you and your friends for a day or two.

  • Conclusion: authentic current playground b-ball legends like my hometown’s AO, who plays at Philly’s 11th and Lombard, and Brooklyn’s Rucker Park duo of 1/2 Man 1/2 Amazing and Headache. There are players from famous courts sprawled across the US of A, from East Coast to West, including the barnyard backyard court of the naughty-sounding French Lick, Indiana, the original stomping grounds of NBA Hall of Famer Larry Bird. You can even create your own player if you want.

  • Excerpt: For every good basketball player, there’s a court where they learned their first crossover, made their first lay-up, or threw down their first dunk. Removed from the borders of sportsmanlike conduct, penalties or referees, the only thing that mattered was the game, a player’s skill, and the score when it was all over. That, and a healthy dose of trash talking. I’m not talking about the simplistic waving of hands in front of faces or shouting as a shot is made.

Operation Sports
27 August 2002
  • Excerpt: When you think of the game Street Hoops, you should think of the And 1 Mix tape or the Rucker. For those of you unfamiliar with the And 1 Mix tape, it’s a video that features highlights of some of the best street ballers in the country set to hip-hop music. The Rucker (or the Entertainers Basketball Classic) is a tournament that features some of the best street ballers and some NBA players such as Kobe Bryant and Baron Davis.
