  • Excerpt: When creating a sequel to a popular game, there are a few ways you can go about it. Primarily, you can create a whole new game, trying to keep the best of what went before, or you can say "if it ain't broke, don't fix it," and create a new game that is essentially just the old game in a new setting. Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords clearly falls into the second category, even employing a tweaked version of the same game engine as the original.

  • Excerpt: Obsidian Entertainment positions its Knights of the Old Republic II as the series’ equivalent of The Empire Strikes Back . True to its film inspiration, the game starts off with the familiar environment of its predecessor, then chops off a hand or two, throws in some dark philosophy and darker plot twists, and wraps up with an ending that leaves people screaming for a sequel…or maybe just screaming.

  • Excerpt: I'm sure I wasn't the only one surprised by how good Knights of the Old Republic was. Not only are games based on a license known for being bad, Star Wars games in particular are well known for this. Not to mention I don't even like Star Wars. Yet I loved KOTOR. In my opinion, one of the greatest games ever made. So with much anticipation, I waited for the sequel.
  • Pros: + Interesting story
  • Cons: - Awful ending

  • Excerpt: 2003’s Knights of the Old Republic did something for me that I never thought a game, any game, could ever do. It actually provided me with an enjoyable experience that was set within the Star Wars universe. I realize that this statement borders on some form of geek heresy, but one must be completely honest. Until the original Knights of the Old Republic, I was largely indifferent to Star Wars and everything it entailed.
  • Pros: + Improved character interaction
  • Cons: - General feeling of deja vu

  • Excerpt: Knights of the Old Republic II finds itself in the difficult position of trying to improve on one of the best games in recent years. The result is a game built on tried and true game dynamics, a darker emphasis than the original, and a new story that takes you from Star Wars planet to Star Wars planet, but doesn't break ground and drops you at the end.

  • Conclusion: THE VERDICT: A great game that many players will find irritatingly familiar. Graphical shortcomings aside, The Sith Lords is an amazing package that delivers the thrill of a Star Wars movie with ease. An engrossing plot and interesting, original characters separate this game from the crowd.
