Excerpt: SSX on Tour is the fourth game in the series, and the first since 2003's SSX 3. Concentrating on a solid single-player experience, the development team dropped online play, but have succeeded in delivering a game that - while not all that different to previous games in the series - should please existing fans and newcomers to the series. A unique art style and a pumping soundtrack sweeten the overall package.
Excerpt: Winter must be around the corner because EA has just released the fourth iteration in their EA Big branded SSX series. But in order to keep things fresh they decided that the single plank option wasn't enough to entice gamers into buying a new version, so dual-planks (skis) have been added, and quite honestly the gameplay didn't change much, but the graphical tweaks that were required added a little freshness to the title.
Excerpt: . It's what got me back into gaming. I played the original game on a friend's PS2, and the incredible graphics, speed, and fun is what got me all hot 'n' bothered to get into the next generation of consoles, and the rest was history.
Conclusion: THE VERDICT: The biggest challenge faced when reinventing your brand is to not change so much as to disconnect from your previous customer base. Like Madonna, SSX on Tour seems more concerned about restyling its platinum coif than maintaining the appeal that attracted its fans in the first place. Unfortunately SSX On Tour has been changed and hacked so much that we can hardly recognise it.
Conclusion: SSX On Tour is smooth like ice, slapped with a green hair mohawked snowboarder and a few flashing fists of metal. This is one wild game which can be enjoyed by all levels of gamers. Although I haven't always been a huge fan of the series this is the one which will bring you over to the dark side. Do It, You'll love It. SSX On Tour rocks out large.
