Summary: is the absurd storyline. The game mixes actual historic figures (such as Crassus, Tiberius, and Sejanus) with mythical ones (such as Castor, Pollux, and Medusa) without much regard to historical fact. This would be fine except that I have come to expect a lot more from CA. The game should be entitled Spartan: Total Anachronism. I would gladly overlook that fact if the game was, erm, actually fun to play.
Summary: Previous reviewers have hit most of the major descriptive points: lots of warriors, average graphics, simplistic objectives, etc. But one thing I think needs to be stressed is the *repetitive* nature of this game. You will find yourself seemingly fighting the same battle over and over and over again, sometimes because you died but mostly because there just isn't any variety in the game play.
Excerpt: "When i bought this game, I wanted it to be like the 'total war' series on the pc. Oh how i was wrong. This game is only single player, which is a bit of a let down considering the capabilities the xbox has with xbox live (read my review on that!). You are a un named warrior who fights at first for Sparta against the Romans, you invade their camp and decide to set off for Troy (I was a bit bemused at this time, considering the trojan war is not linked ...
Summary: I am a BIG fan of Rome Total War and have really enjoyed other FPS of that era (particularly Prince of Persia) so I rushed out and bought Spartan as soon as it came out, but have been very badly disappointed. The game play is extremely limited and repetitive and although it's visually impressive it lacks the depth or imagination that I would have expected from the developers.
Summary: Total lack of a tutorial mode, this game throws you in to the heat of the battle from the off. You have to learn the moves by trial and error. The actual mechanics of the gameplay are just dull Usually there are so many characters on screen you can't really see what's going on, requiring you to constantly bash A until either you win or die from boredom.
