Conclusion: When it comes down to it, Shellshock: Nam ’67 isn’t a horrible game, but it isn’t exact stellar either. It felt like more time was spent on the “shock” factor (gruesome cut-scenes, the amount of blood shed during battle, and the crazy amount of vulgar words) than was spent on actual gameplay mechanics.
Excerpt: ShellShock: Nam '67 immerses you in the most controversial conflict of modern times: The Vietnam War. Taking on the role of a rookie on his first tour of duty, you will experience the fear, chaos and atrocities of the Vietnam War. From the napalm bombardments of civilian villages and the gruesome Viet Cong (VC) booby traps, to the permanent threat of invisible foes and deadly ambushes, ShellShock: Nam '67 dares to go where no other war game has gone. It's January 1967.
Excerpt: Amana introduces the microwave oven to home kitchens, the Green Bay Packers win the Ice Bowl, and the The Doors top the charts with “Light My Fire”. That’s right, it’s the year 1967 and you’ve been drafted to fight in the most controversial conflict of modern times. Shellshock: Nam ’67 is a third-person shooter set during the Vietnam War. You take on the role of a rookie US soldier looking to buck the odds of survival that sent so many young men home in body bags.
Conclusion: You know you would think to make a shooter fun you would have to get the basics right and it would be fun. Well I have been coming to notice that us gamers are becoming less and less grateful as we just keep wanting more and more out of our game developers. With all of the problems that you will encounter in the gameplay I found that it was just too much to overlook. Although the game does have some really interesting ideas, it fails to create a fun game.
Conclusion: Shellshock Nam '67 is a fairly straight forward third person shooter that takes place throughout some well designed but linear levels. The game engine is solid and features a large number of diverse levels and this plus the strong audio and varied missions are definitely its key strengths. The missions do get more interesting as you progress but the game does suffer from 'checkpoint syndrome' as you can't simply save anywhere you like.
Pros: + extremely good audio and large selection of weapons, + top rate soundtrack featuring chart toppers from 1967, + the levels feature some excellent weather effects, + roaming around the base is a cool touch, +, +, Reviewed by Shane Bryan
Cons: - no real advanced graphic effects or lighting, - linear levels, - offers nothing really ground breaking, -
