Excerpt: The “chick” in question is Nicola “Nikki” Connors; a Green Beret trained operative who is seeking revenge on the terrorist group Omega 19, who is responsible for orchestrating the explosion that engulfed her husband and daughter. As the story begins, the homage to a certain now classic French action/thriller becomes evident. Let’s just say that calling this game “Le Femme Nikki(ta)” would be more than apt.
Conclusion: Rogue Ops breaks the mold of stealth titles by having a woman as the main character, but it fails to completely smash the mold since it play too much like the previously released games. In some ways it plays worse than existing stealth/action games, especially when it comes to interacting with objects. The combat mode raises the gameplay level, but not enough to truly satisfy people that are familiar with other stealth titles.
Excerpt: Rogue Ops is a new stealth action game from Bits Studios that draws inspiration from other stealth games like Metal Gear Solid and Splinter Cell. Rogue Ops also brings a few mechanical innovations to the table, some of which are actually pretty well-thought-out and help ease the flow of the stealth gameplay. Alas, some of the game's fundamental components aren't as strong as they could be and end up detracting from the experience.
Excerpt: Renegade Ops had caught the attention of a lot of people in the run up to its eventual release, some very nice looking gameplay videos perpetuated with some very big explosions – what more does a gamer need? However, timing is everything and when Microsoft dropped the title onto the marketplace 3 days before Gears of War 3 released.
Conclusion: RO looks good, plays well, and has some complex levels and genuinely clever, brainteaser type puzzles (although many levels are of the relatively straightforward sneak 'n' shoot kind). Combined with the wicked enemy AI this is a game that you won't be finishing too quickly (the end boss is a real stinker to beat). Rogue Ops is possibly just the thing to keep you on your toes until MGS3 and/or Splinter Cell Pandora Tomorrow.
Pros: Challenging stealth action., Cool gadgets that would make Solid Snake jealous., Some clever puzzles that would leave Lara baffled.
Cons: The icon system is intrusive and doesn't work as well as it should., Some sloppy controls., Too far between save/restart points.
