Excerpt: It's been a while since we've seen a new Rocky movie (and Rocky fans would just assume forget the last one). It's a testament to the power of the Rocky legend that the movies can still inspire new video games. The latest video game to feature America's favorite pugilist is a treat for his fans in that it features all of Rocky's biggest foes, as well as several lesser known ones.
Excerpt: The Rocky movies are some of the most popular films in America and for good reason. They chronicle the life of Rocky Balboa, a man who, by sheer determination, constantly overcomes seemingly insurmountable odds to become the world’s greatest boxer. It’s hard not to be inspired by his amazing comebacks and unbreakable will. Ubi Soft’s goal with the game was to capture the essence of the Rocky movies while providing gameplay that keep gamers coming back for more.
Excerpt: The main mode of the game is movie mode. This mode is split up into five parts to distinguish each movie. These segments consist of four bouts and each bout is with a completely different fighter. The fourth bout in each area of the game is with the main event contender from the films: Apollo Creed (Rocky I & II), Clubber Lang (Rocky III), Ivan Drago (Rocky IV), and finally, perhaps the most cheesily-named of them all, Tommy Gunn from Rocky V.
Excerpt: Rocky review Game Over Online - http://www.game-over.com Rocky, published by Ubi Soft, is based on the popular films Rocky I-V, the first of which is already a quarter-century old if you can believe it. Since the developers were not limited to focusing on a single film when developing Rocky, fans of the movies can expect to see material spanning the entire series.
Conclusion: Granted, Rocky does have its shortcomings, a movie license rarely benefits from such in-depth gameplay and storylines. It is one of those games you start playing and don’t get back up until the game is over. This is quite easy to do, however, considering the movie mode can be toppled in less than 4 hours, depending on the difficulty level.
Excerpt: What a wonderful
holiday it is for Xbox owners. Gamer42 and I made our weekly
pilgrimage to the local mall, which has both an EBX and a
GameStop to see what came out this week. The Xbox assault on
the Christmas season is on. Fresh on the rack was MechAssault,
Unreal Tournament, Xbox Live, BMX XXX, and the game I walked
away with: Rocky.
Summary: "The game also makes excellent use of the Rocky soundtrack, each boxer has his own theme too which is a pretty cool touch. Punches all sound good too as you try and beat your opponent to a pulp." "The fights themselves are excellent, the atmosphere is almost perfect, each fighter taking part in the game walks up to the right in a proper movie like fashion. Each boxer has a certain theme tune to accompany him to the ring.
Pros: Great Graphics, Great fight engine, Good atmosphere
Excerpt: Rocky was the story about a two-bit boxer who was going nowhere who is suddenly offered an exhibition match by the world heavyweight champion. Rocky knew that if he could go the distance with the champ he’d prove a valuable lesson to himself. The movie was a smash hit, claiming the prize for Best Picture at the 1976 Academy awards, and saw the rise of the star and writer of Rocky, Sylvester Stallone, to the top level of Hollywood stars.
