Conclusion: Sound is another area where small positives are radically offset by serious negatives. The sound effects for firearms and explosions are nothing spectacular. The "K-Billy Sounds of the Seventies" soundtrack from the original film is mostly present, but it lacks the monotone delivery of Steven Wright's retro DJ character introducing the songs which made it work so beautifully in the film.
Conclusion: At the end of the day Reservoir Dogs does leave many things to desire but it is better than most other movie to game endeavors. The action is bare minimum to the genre, the hostage taking is interesting but gets repetitive, and driving is the pits. These flaws prevent the game from being what it could have been but some generic graphics don't help much either.
Conclusion: There are some redeemable moments in Reservoir Dogs , including the bullet festivals and signature moves that each of the characters possess. The rest of the experience can feel a little clunky and undercooked, with plenty of weird little mishaps that blemish the game beyond the point of salvation.
Excerpt: As has been seen time and time again, messing with classic films for video game adaptations can be a dicey prospect. Sometimes, against all odds, it works out, and you get something surprisingly enjoyable. Other times, you get hollow action games that simply use a classic film as a crutch to peddle unremarkable gameplay, and end up offending the very audience at which the game proclaims to be for.
Pros: It's got the Super Sounds of the Seventies
Cons: Shooting missions are either criminally boring or clunky and frustrating, depending on how you play them, Driving missions are an exercise in frustration, Ugly graphics, Extremely short (actually, maybe that's a good thing), Story is a pale representation of the film's plot
Conclusion: For all its gloss (the inclusion of the movie's entire iconic soundtrack gets two thumbs up) and flashes of inspiration, Reservoir Dogs never really rises above average. It does have enough neat tricks up its sleeve to make the game's relatively swift playtime enjoyable. If you're looking for something to pass the time on a rainy weekend, there's enough here to warrant a rental.
Excerpt: "Lookin' back, on the track, for a little green bag..."
