Excerpt: You are Alias, a demolitions expert, and one of five bio-engineered soldiers on a quest to overthrow a corrupt communist government. You are part of a group called the Red Faction who vow to take the evil dictator out of power and restore a somewhat decent government. THQ and Outrage Games really put together a winner with this game.
Conclusion: THE VERDICT: RF2 isn't the greatest FPS out there but, it is a fun game. It is worth a buy for shooter fans, but I suggest a rent first. It had a lot of potential but needed a little more polish to be a hit. It's just the small flaws that keep it from greatness. If you do give it a try you'll have an enjoyable experience.
Conclusion: Well you’re looking at one of the year’s best shooters…so far. The competition for shooters in 2003 has been bare minimum, but for myself I’ve found Red Faction II to be one of the most pleasant surprises yet this year. I never really expected much when I first got the game, but in just a few short hours I was engrossed in the action. The single player mission is a walk in the park, but it’s worth playing a second time on the hardest difficulty, forget the length.
Conclusion: But if you're looking for an action packed shooter you could do a lot worse. It won't last all that long (the original Red Faction felt longer and more dramatic to me) but with literally loads of multiplayer maps (50!) and the ability to use all the characters in the game, if you play shooters with mates you could do a lot worse.
Pros: Blow up scenery! Lots of it!, Some cool weapons, vehicular shooting and loads of multiplayer levels.
Cons: Looks like a PS2 game., Small, linear levels rarely immerse you.
Excerpt: Red Faction is proof that a little bit of hype can go a long way when the console you are launching on is in the middle of a drought. The original game was released for the Playstation 2 in June of 2001 and went on to sell more than a million copies worldwide, as well as being inducted into the Platinum Range. Success of that magnitude virtually ensures that a sequel is on the way, and a sequel is exactly what we have received.
Conclusion: Red Faction 2 is unashamedly a mindless shooter, with no real pretense at deep puzzles or plot despite its enjoyable storyline. If you are looking for some release and want to blow both your enemies and the levels to pieces, then this is the game for you. Those looking for a slightly more cerebral slaying experience will be disappointed, however the abundance of multiplayer and skirmish options, coupled with full bot support means this is a game with plenty of...
Pros: there's a lot to blow up!, bots in skirmish and multiplayer, very revolutionary feel thanks to level design and dialogue, +
Cons: single player is easy and quite short, graphics are a bit bland and low-res, music can get repetitive, -
