Summary: Ubisoft's Prince of Persia: Warrior Within
takes players on a darker, more dangerous journey than last year's brilliant The
Sands of Time. It plays very much like the first game, though the gameplay has
evolved with a sophisticated combat system. This is known as "Free
Form" fighting, and gives the Prince more freedom and versatility.
Summary: If it weren’t for Halo 2, then Prince of Persia: Warrior Within would definitely be among the top choices for 2004 Game of the Year. Warrior Within is everything we were expecting for the game plus some things we weren’t expecting. A truly great story, amazing gameplay, wonderful graphics, and by far the best sound in any Xbox game I have ever heard, easily makes Warrior Within one of the best Xbox games ever.
Pros: A great story, fun combat and amazing sound!
Cons: A few minor glitches and at times frustrating.
Conclusion: THE VERDICT: If you thought platformers were dead and action games were all looking the same, Prince of Persia: Warrior Within will prove otherwise. It's a breathtaking release that delivers in every category, and definitely warrants a spot in your library. A great weapons system, more mature theme and tweaked gameplay, plus Live for the Xbox version, should vault this game into console stardom. You owe it to yourself as a gamer to snap this up - right now.
Conclusion: A title that receives critical acclaim, yet fails to produce at the retail level is a hard to swallow, so I completely understand on why Warrior Within has changed much in just a year. Make no mistake about it, this is still a great game with absolutely stunning visuals, intriguing gameplay, and a cool story, but it may not be everybody’s cup of tea in terms of its new dank look or hard-edged feel.
