Operation Flashpoint Elite
4 December 2005
Conclusion: This is perhaps the “Microsoft Flight Simulator” of the First/Third Person Shooter genre, a brilliant concept even 4 years on, but I can’t help feeling that maybe developers Bohemia were just too ambitious for their own good in terms of scale and scope. Operation Flashpoint Elite is a potential classic, handicapped by a jerky frame rate and a lack of precision in vital areas.
Pros: Loads of atmosphere means you really feel you’re part of a larger conflict, The landscapes are huge, and you can see for miles, You can drive or fly, vehicles!, A real ‘sandbox’ military game
Cons: Horrendous frame rate, The graphics ain’t that hot, You’ll spend a large part of the game just running around trying to understand barked orders or waiting for something to happen, It’s very easy to die
