Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee Review

IGN Entertainment
11 March 2010
  • Conclusion: All in all, Oddworld is an enjoyable game. Not too stressful or repetitive, but with a strong plot and graphics that'll satisfy most. Replay value is medium, and it crosses enough genre lines to make it a good game for a lot of different gamers. If you didn’t get a bundle with this game in it yet, I suggest you add it on when you get your Xbox.

Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee Review

GameSpot
13 October 2003
  • Excerpt: Imagine an instance where an indie film is promoted as one of the biggest blockbuster movies of the year. Think about the backlash when the mainstream filmgoing public runs afoul of such elements as untraditional storytelling, plot structure, and dialogue--without being told to expect them. That's what will likely happen with the release of Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee for the Xbox.

  • Excerpt: The Oddworld series has been one of weird and odd stories about Abe saving other mudokaians from a cruel and deadly fate of becoming food. Now along with that, Munch is placed in the game to help Abe and to save the fuzzles and his brothers. Together you save their world in your own sick, twisted, and somewhat smelly way.

Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee

The Armchair Empire

  • Conclusion: well and look terrific – provided you can see what you’re doing as the camera needs work. Camera transgressions include: not adjusting well to the action and not zooming in during the short in-game “briefings” by the Shamans. Most times the camera is just plain too far away making precision control difficult.

  • Excerpt: The introduction of Munch is quite a drastic change from previous Oddworld titles. However, the use of it is quite pragmatic. Munch and Abe, although both strange and out of this world, operate differently with Munch being more of an aquatic creature for water-filled levels. Abe, on the other hand, is better at land-based monkey acrobatics. As such, the obstacles and puzzles thrown at you are somewhat different.

Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee

Game Over Online
28 March 2002
  • Excerpt: Oddworld started out as a 2D franchise on other platforms but quickly found a niche amongst the Playstation crowd. Its 'defection' to Microsoft was widely publicized and a cursory examination at some of the technical artistry involved serves to explain why a 'defection' was indeed necessary. Like most of its predecessors, Oddworld mixes its highly quirky humor with a heavy dose of tongue-in-cheek satire on our capitalist, big corporation oligopolies.

OddWorld: Munch's Oddysee

PLANET42
12 February 2002
  • Excerpt: Oddworld didn't take long to make its way to the hottest console around, but would this version end up being the best yet for the series? The capture Oddworld - Munch's Oddysee begins with some crazy yet impressive cinematic screens, all of which set the mood and increase the anticipation. The storyline is very creative, but may not appeal to everyone. In any event I was most impressed and very eager to play from the start.

  • Excerpt: Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee had long been the marketing darling of Xbox, due in no small part to the fact that Lorne Lanning, Oddworld's self-serving president and creative director consistently, unashamedly and unremittingly decries the PlayStation2 as a inept box of inferiority not worthy of his highly advanced and elaborate Oddworld games.
