Conclusion: There’s no question that NBA Live 2003 is an improved game, solely because of the addition of Freestyle Control. But EA also added improvements in other aspects of the interface, and the sound and many aspects of the graphics are decent. But EA needs to focus on making Freestyle less effective in NBA Live 2004 and concentrate more on the nuts and bolts of realistic basketball. Freestyle shouldn’t dominate the game as it does in NBA Live 2003.
Conclusion: exception with NBA Live 2003. New this year is the ability to take a charge on defense. You can call plays on the fly, although that doesn’t always work in practice as well as it should. Another great feature is the freestyle control that utilizes the right thumbstick of the Xbox controller in conjunction with the left thumbstick and the controller buttons.
Conclusion: NBA Live 2003 is a huge improvement from NBA Live 2002, bringing back the enjoyment that had been missing before. Obviously the FreeStyle Control has a huge role in this revival. This game is not the best basketball simulation game out there because of the speed and spectacular high flying dunks in the game, but so far is the most enjoyable of the three basketball titles on the Xbox. The game gets even better playing multiplayer against other humans.
Excerpt: NBA Live has taken a lot of criticism in the last few years, mostly because the series has seemingly gone backwards. Each year gamers have expected EA to come out with some major improvements to challenge Sega’s NBA2K series and each year you are left shaking your head as to what they were trying to accomplish. This year appears to be different, this game may not be for everyone but what it does it does very well.
Excerpt: “Three seconds left on the clock, score’s 87-86…Here comes the inbound pass. Caught at half court, there’s a quick spin…fadeaway jumper at the buzzer…and it’s…” Pretty exciting, huh? Guess what, with the start of the basketball season only a week old, we’re in for a ton of moments like these.
Excerpt: Pretty exciting, huh? Guess what, with the start of the basketball season only a week old, we’re in for a ton of moments like these. Yep, all the exhilaration and heartbreak that can come from a blocked pass, a fast break or a clutch shot is now upon us, so we can all look forward to tons of highlights of our favorite ballers going ”above the rim.” Most of us might not be able to take to the skies with the same authority as NBA stars can in real life.
