NBA JAM Review

IGN Entertainment
11 March 2010
  • Conclusion: Despite the fact that NBA Jam will have a difficult time dealing with competition in the upcoming months, I still find the game solid overall. The gameplay still remains as rambunctious as ever, but the available modes of play are definitely lacking. That’s not to say what’s offered in NBA Jam isn’t good enough, it just would have been nice to have more to choose from.

  • Conclusion: version for the Xbox 360 will poke your nostalgia. The first spoken phrase is "Boomshakalaka!" That should be enough to slide you right into that younger frame of mind. It did something to me. It made me happy playing it. Not just an amused, "Oh, I'm having fun with this" but actually made me feel better after playing it. Without the motion controls (see our Wii review of NBA Jam) it felt like there was something missing from the visceral feel of the game.

NBA Jam Review

  • Conclusion: NBA Jam is fun distilled to its purest form. Whether or not that makes it a great game is up for debate. If you enjoy getting together with some friends for games of FIFA, Madden and NHL then you’ll be in heaven with NBA Jam. There is no sports game that is better suited to trash talking and joshing with friends, and even offers up some fun for the non-sports fans out there.
  • Pros: Simple and easy to play, Crazy over the top action, Hilarious commentary from Tim Kritznow, Fantastic multiplayer
  • Cons: Single-player lacks depth, Frustrating AI rubber banding

  • Conclusion: Lowdown The arcade style of NBA Jam 2004 makes it a great game to pick up and play; unfortunately there isn't much to keep you here after a few hours of action. NBA Jam needs to refocus there efforts and turn out a more cutting edge product in the next offering. Great barging bin stuff.
