NBA JAM Review

IGN Entertainment
11 March 2010
  • Conclusion: Despite the fact that NBA Jam will have a difficult time dealing with competition in the upcoming months, I still find the game solid overall. The gameplay still remains as rambunctious as ever, but the available modes of play are definitely lacking. That’s not to say what’s offered in NBA Jam isn’t good enough, it just would have been nice to have more to choose from.

  • Conclusion: same hotspots, even more ridiculous dunks, and special features that really do “turn back the clock”. Acclaim has added a boatload of new dunks that will have you awestruck every time. Never before has a half-court dunk looked so pretty. In addition to the dunking, the same rules that applied before are again implemented. For example: if you miss a three pointer and put the basket back in without letting it drop to the floor, the basket still counts as three points.

  • Summary: If you?re a fan of the classic Midway game, and stayed up many a nights as a youngster with your Genesis or Super Nintendo controller glued to your hands, then this updated version of NBA Jam is for you. Some new comers may catch on, but this one is for the old school Jammers. Some of the new Remix Modes are fun like Domination and the boss battles, but overall $50 is a hefty price for a game that could have easily just been a download. Yes, if you?

NBA Jam Review

23 October 2005
  • Conclusion: NBA Jam is fun distilled to its purest form. Whether or not that makes it a great game is up for debate. If you enjoy getting together with some friends for games of FIFA, Madden and NHL then you’ll be in heaven with NBA Jam. There is no sports game that is better suited to trash talking and joshing with friends, and even offers up some fun for the non-sports fans out there.
  • Pros: Simple and easy to play, Crazy over the top action, Hilarious commentary from Tim Kritznow, Fantastic multiplayer
  • Cons: Single-player lacks depth, Frustrating AI rubber banding

Expert Review

1 October 2005
  • Conclusion: Lowdown The arcade style of NBA Jam 2004 makes it a great game to pick up and play; unfortunately there isn't much to keep you here after a few hours of action. NBA Jam needs to refocus there efforts and turn out a more cutting edge product in the next offering. Great barging bin stuff.
