Game magazine writers, Interent message board denizens, and the residents of Shady Acres Home for Recovering Arcade Junkies generally agree that the best version of Mortal Kombat is, in fact, Mortal Kombat II. Once the shock value of the original Kombat wore off (Ohmygod! Blood!), it became clear that game was actually not that great. Kombat II was a much bigger deal...and come on it had a playable Reptile. Read more
Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance is the first Mortal Kombat to be designed to go directly to home consoles. That fact has brought about many improvements to the game. There is an extensive Konquest mode, which will be explained shortly as well as a Krypt mode involving purchasing 700+ items using another new item, Koinage earned from winning fights. All of these together improve the game immensely. Read more
Midway brings us another addition to their Mortal Kombat franchise. As we all well know - the MK franchise has endured some bumpy roads and immensely crappy games, TV shows, comic books and movies over the past decade. After they announced another title to the franchise, I was a bit skeptical. I really couldn't see how they could bring it back with the same feel of the first two. But I'm happy to report that Midway has nailed the 3D Mortal Kombat formula down. With Ed... Read more
Overall, Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance for the Xbox is a good fighting game with a great gore factor. While the control limitations and simple combos will have you weary of the single-player modes in a couple days, the never-ending blood and neat three stance system will make kicking your friends' asses all the more enjoyable. And, even better, give them a half-hour and they might start kicking your ass, too. Read more
Gamers usually either enjoy fighting games or they don't. It's a good sign that Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance is actually enjoyable for those who don't normally play fighting games. The training provided by Konquest mode, the variety of moves, and the progressive difficulty level combine with the exciting action to make the game accessible to those who generally play games of other genres. The game also provides a good degree of challenge and a number of fighters... Read more
Finally a version of Mortal Kombat that is in 3D and worthwhile. Sure the babalities, the friendships, mercy etc have been removed and yes, they each have only one fatality, again, but the lack of abilities is compensated for by the sheer amount of playability and intrigue! Button basher delux and skilled player heaven both. Apart from Sonya Blade having the face of a MAN(!!!) who met a train face first, you will not be disappointed by this title... Read more
Mortal Kombat has finally arrived to the XBOX and in three-dimensional game play and leaves its two dimensional world behind. This game basically expands and furthers the storyline of the original mortal kombat Tournament and adds even more characters and moves to the game play. This game requires more strategy than the original because now you have to worry about fighting in three dimensions and avoiding the various environmental traps that surrounds each fight arena.... It's pretty fun, it has nice graphics and I like all the special moves and combos that you can do. The only draw back is that there are locked characters you can't play unless you play the single player game. Read more or see product
For a while, it looked as though Midway's Mortal Kombat franchise was dead and buried, a Fatality of lame sequels and horrendous spin-offs. The 3-Hit combo of the Mortal Kombat Annihilation movie, coupled with the poorly recieved games Mortal Kombat 4 and Mortal Kombat Special Forces for PlayStation had appeared to consign the series to the video-game graveyard next to franchises like Killer Instinct or Eternal Champions. A lot of the current crop of gamers probably... Read more
