MLB Slugfest 2006

Operation Sports
27 June 2006
  • Excerpt: If you spend a lot of time in the sports gaming community, you’ll figure out quickly that conversation often drifts to the same topics over and over again. You have your classics like sock color, gang tackling, and your self-proclaimed experts who like to declare a game “broken” after two games. Nit-picky, self-important, often mind-numbing conversations that show up every release season like lemmings without a cliff.

Game Revolution

  • Excerpt: Not so great balls of fire. Remember that Simpson ’s episode where Bart and Lisa are playing an ultra-violent video game and one wrestler body slams the other into an open grave, buries him and pees on the tombstone? That clearly drew inspiration from Mortal Kombat , showing a rare appreciation for one of gaming's greatest joys – thrashing a friend in an obnoxious way while basking in their discomfort.
  • Pros: Cool trick pitches, Only twenty bucks, Fun with a friend, Awful by yourself, Lousy graphics, Bad sound, Not crazy enough

MLB SlugFest 2006 Review

GameSpot
14 June 2006
  • Excerpt: Midway's MLB SlugFest series brings baseball to the same extreme that you'd expect from the company's long-running, over-the-top sports franchises. The rule set is stripped down, you can clock people in the face while running around the bases, and there are plenty of wild super pitches and chances to set yourself "on fire.
  • Pros: Budget priced, Gameplay is still somewhat solvent
  • Cons: Ugly graphics and HUD elements, Roughly identical to a 2-year-old game, Commentary could have been better, Utterly soulless
