Midnight Club II

The Gamers Temple
3 May 2004
  • Excerpt: Midnight Club II is an arcade racer that takes you into the world of illegal street racing.  The emphasis is not on realism, which is a good thing since you'd probably end up dead half the time in a true street racing sim.  Instead the game is all about challenging you to successfully navigate streets crawling with traffic, avoid the police, outsmart the top-notch AI of the other racers, and find the best path to the finish line through the streets of LA, Paris, and...

  • Excerpt: For those who don’t own both systems (and thus, should have read my review of the PS2 version), here is the 411. The majority of Midnight Club 2 takes place offline, with the Career Mode starting with a clunker of a car and only the desire to win keeping you from staying home. While you first car has more “Ghetto” than “Get-up-and-go,” the only way to improve your vehicle is to win a better one on the city streets.

Midnight Club 2

Thunderbolt Games
21 July 2003
  • Excerpt: I was in a game shop at one point when they had Midnight Club 2 playing on the PlayStation 2 kiosk. I spent a good amount of time just trying to run pedestrians over. I vowed that I would purchase it when it came out for Xbox, and like George Washington, I never tell a lie. However, that’s were the similarities between the two of us end, because I brush my teeth regularly and he had false teeth because the people back in the day didn’t have dental hygiene.

Game Over Online
16 June 2003
  • Excerpt: Similar to its predecessor, MCII disposes of major plot development; actually, the plot that exists in Career mode is left intentionally minimal to allow for more fast-paced action. Players are cast as nameless, faceless drivers looking to establish a name in the underground realm of street racing. This starts with an introduction to Moses, a veteran of the L.A. street circuit who quickly becomes your mentor.

Midnight Club II

Game Over Online
16 June 2003
  • Excerpt: Like most red-blooded American men, I have a serious need for speed. Maybe it’s because I’m an adrenaline junkie, but the faster, the better. So it’s no surprise that I was heavily into street racing as soon as I got my license, and I learned a ton of useful information in my quarter mile days, much of which has stuck with me to this day. 1) What matters is who crosses the finish line first, not how good your jump is off the start line.

Midnight Club II

Gamecell
14 February 2004
  • Conclusion: Although not the prettiest of games, the graphics are solid and you have to really look for pop up - no mean feat when you see the draw distance and complexity of the cities. This game supplies a much needed adrenalin rush to a genre that seemed to be losing its way.
  • Pros: Fantastic speed, mad stunts with hot hatches, supercars and bikes., The freedom to cruise 3 huge cities., Fun sub games and Xbox Live., Smart AI gives some real competition.
  • Cons: Sometimes feels like no more than a GTA3 or Vice City mission., Occasionally indistinct graphics mean it's frustratingly difficult to see where you're going., You can't play your own soundtracks as you're cruising, and that's a real shame.
