Manhunt

Xbox Evolved
30 March 2005
  • Summary: Overall the game is alright. Good graphics, game play, controls and story line. This is my most favorite game from Rockstar other than GTA series. This game is perfect for people that are really into horror games and adventure games because this is exactly what the game is combined into one. I prefer the XBOX version over all the other game console versions. The version for PS2 doesn’t include the improved graphics and improved controls.
  • Pros: The gameplay, graphics, sound, and controls are great.
  • Cons: If the game were a little longer it would have been even better.

Manhunt

  • Excerpt: Rockstar North's extremely graphic and violent stealth-based kill-em-up, first released for PlayStation 2 back in November 2003, has now made its way over to Xbox. The game is fundamentally a direct port, but benefits from a higher resolution and some much-improved textures, meaning that its rather grim concept of snuff movies is now rendered in even greater detail.

  • Excerpt: You might remember Manhunt from the splash it made on the PS2 not so long ago. Now it's taking its haunting atmosphere and uber violence to the Xbox and PC. We're pretty sure that Manhunt's ESRB rating of "Mature" really ought to have been "Adults Only", but adult gamers not feeling gore shy can look to Manhunt for a genuinely disturbing experience. • Excerpt: If you look up the word controversy in the dictionary it would probably come as no surprise if “See Rockstar Gamesâ€ was listed as a definition; at least as far as the videogame industry is concerned. Ever since their Grand Theft Auto series hit the mainstream, the company has been right smack dab in the middle of the controversy of violence and mature content in videogames.

The Armchair Empire
1 February 2004
  • Conclusion: satisfying gameplay journey, albeit with a few potholes along the way. The excellent story places you in the criminal shoes of Carcer City death row inmate James Earl Cash, a bad, bad man that’s reached the final night of his life: Cash is set to die by lethal injection in Darkwoods Penitentiary to pay for his crimes.

Game Over Online
16 January 2004
  • Excerpt: The game itself has spawned quite a bit of political controversy. If the Haitian references in Grand Theft Auto have caused Rockstar any annoyances, Manhunt is likely to be infamous for many years to come in the public's eye. It has a certain shock value. It's definitely mature subject matter. In a way, it reminds me of those survivalist death games like Governor Schwarzenegger's vintage Running Man.

  • Conclusion: THE VERDICT: Overall, Manhunt is quite unique and succeeds at what it was really made to do: shock and make headlines. It's already been banned in one country and it probably won't be the last, but then this is aimed squarely at mature gaming audiences only. Play for the unique experience and expect to come away shocked, but don't expect to be completely blown away by the gameplay.
